Base for a Romulan D-7?
Posted by Kugai on Monday, January 18, 2010 9:46 PM

I'm starting on a PL D-7 with Romulan markings.  Maybe I'm being too picky, but I'd rather not have a model in Romulan colors but with the Klingon insignia for the base ( spare parts for how many types of engines in the PL 1:1000 Enterprise kit, and they couldn't have an alternate base for the D-7? ).  Can anyone suggest a good source for a Romulan base that would work?

I think you might have to make one.  Not too hard really.  Simply trace the outline of the Romulan Logo on to your base material and either make a mask or decal.

If you get ambitious, you could fit something to make the globes dimensional. A marble maybe.

Or another TOS style that would be much easier to replicate with styrene sheet cut to shape and painted:

I'm leaning towards this one on my TOS Romulan BOP base.

EDIT: I've since replaced my pirated webshot with the base I've made in the meantime although it's not fully finalized.

I'm considering just that; a TOS-style base instead of the TNG version.  I would have been OK with the TNG look if it had been the only thing available for the size needed, but between the work involved and the fact it wouldn't be a match era-wise, I guess I'm gonna go with sculpting a TOS-style base of some kind.

Too bad the kit's been out forever and there wouldn't be much demand for copies of a good stand design.

Thanks for the suggestions!
