AMT/ERTL Vulcan Shuttle
Posted by rossjr on Thursday, March 25, 2010 12:30 PM

OK, I actually did mine in Federation colors and markings so it's really the Warp Sled, but it is the re-release of the Vulcan Shuttle kit.  The first time since it was originally released back in 1980.

It still possess many of it's fit issues but they did a wonderful job improving the kit for re-release.  To start with you can have the crew compartment detach and not fly off because they incorporate magnets into the assembly.  Next they added a stand to display the finished model.  The same stand they added to the 1/1000 Refit the just released.  Also like that kit and the 1/350 Refit kit, the panels are replicated with decals.  This kit came with two full sheets the size of the box and took me quite a while to apply.  The decals went down OK some were brittle but my many issue was that I didn't have a glossy enough clear coat so I have some silvering of the decals.  Here are some shots, I am still deciding whether to or how to weather the kit...  Enjoy

I'll be retaking some of these but it's a start...

I wonder why it is referred to as a Vulcan shuttle when it is a Federation shuttle. Even in the movie I believe they state a Federal shuttle is requesting...with one life form on board...a Vulcan.

The colors are very different for the Vulcan version, instead of a grey base coat it's starts with a Mauve, the color the plastic is molded in....  Maybe its from Vulcan, they own it kind of like a Canadian CF-18....

Great looking model!

I like how they provided the decals for the panel detailing but am wondering how well they'll work for me. I hope my kit comes out half as well as yours.

I'm wondering if the term 'Vulcan Shuttle' was entirely from AMT/Ertl. I wonder if they used the term Vulcan Shuttle since they used the term Klingon Battlecruiser for the K'tinga? And why shuttle instead of shuttlecraft? Don't look at me- I dunno.....
