Instead of trying to match the apparent white base color with black dark patches ( and, of course, the light gray plating detail ) I saw in the pics of the studio model, I went for a "cool" ( as in bluish ) tone when I did the kit years ago.  I remember using a 50/50 FS Light Gray/Flat White for the base color, straight Light Gray for the slightly duller light patches, and FS Insignia Blue for the really dark areas like the wedges on top of the saucer.  Some of the darker gray details like the triangle marks on the saucer's underside were done in FS Light Ghost Gray.  I used the Model Master paints for all of these by name, but don't have the actual FS numbers handy.

Sorry, I don't know what happend to my post.

Here is the link to Round 2, they are the current manufacturer of the Enterprise E in 1/1400 scale. It does have callouts for painting of the entire ship, but does not give FS numbers. My opinion, in this scale, light ghost grey overall looks good. Also, you can find aftermarket decals but they can be pretty pricey. Just do a Google search .

The Round 2/Polar Lights kit is excellent and so are the decals. So if you do not want to deal with your kit as is, then pick one up (approximately $25 US in my local hobby shop) .

Hope this helps

G'Day All,

I just started the AMT Enterprise E which I bought second hand and without instructions. The kit goes together easy enough not hard to figure out but was curious as to the best colour match for the exterior colour (an FS Equivalent/manufacturer would be awesome) also does anyone do aftermarket decals for this kit? The ones I have are a little hit and miss and hopefully there is something out there with the hull pattern but anything would be good,

Cheers
