Any Ed-209 fans out there??

I love ol' ED!
I still have the Horizon kit I built years ago.

Didn't a Japanese company release a smaller version, too? I can't recall if it was resin or vinyl.

Yep, the Argonauts 1/12 scale version which is sitting half assembled next to me. It is a Resin, Vinyl and White Metal Kit, smaller but superior to the Horizon offering.

Saw the Horizon kit on E-bay a caouple weeks ago. the bidding got too high though.

Not really interested in the bigger Kit(1/9??), so if you are interested I am ready for discussion. Maybe we can arrange a swap or similar, don't worry I don't want much for it.

Prefer the smaller 1/12 scale Kit.

BTW, no change of getting the 1/35 Madcat off me, busy printing new decls for it (old ones yellowed).

Sweet! Sounds like a nice kit. I have never seen the actual Horizon kit [or any other Ed-209] out off the box. Only pics.

I'm with you, MMF...it's gotta be 1/9! It's 12" tall, so at 1/6 that'd only be 6 feet tall, which we know ain't right. ED's 9 feet tall if he's an inch, so I'd say 1/9 is dead on!

I was lucky enough to find a Horizon Ed on consignment at a LHS a few years ago for about $30... a real steal! I haven't had the courage to build it yet. Several years ago FSM (I think) ran an article about super-detailing and accurizing the Horizon kit. I'd like to try that sometime but not until I try a few more vinyl kits first.

J-Hulk, how did yours turn out way back when?

Mark, it was my second vinyl kit ever (first was Horizon's Robocop), but it didn't turn out too bad at all! I new enough even then NOT to try to paint it with enamels, so all was well.
I vaguely remember there being some tricky spots when gluing some parts to the gun pods on the arms, and the fit of the main body and "head" wasn't that great, but other than that the build was certainly easy enough. Just heat and pop it together! Even with the parts you have to glue together, if the fit's not so great, you just heat it up, and presto!
Instant fit!

Here is a comparison between the 2 Kits:

Horizon:
1/9 Scale or there about
All Vinyl Kit.
Needs a bit of work & customisation to make it look good.
Especially on the rear parts of the legs(solid but should be open), although minimal surface detail.

Argonauts:
1/12 Scale
Vinyl, Resin & White metal parts.
White metal parts are cannons(got 5 need 3) & and large screws for the rear part of the legs.
Resin: whole rear part section of the legs to get that section looking acurate.
Vinyl: all the rest.

Apart from the rear part of the legs the parts splitup is identical.
The Argonauts kit has more surface detail (wiring, etc), attaching the resin section to the lower legs will be fun as there is not much of a glue-joint.
center part where the hip-joints are sitatued is lacking the markings for where to open to fit the legs, will cut diameter disc and use those for guidance.

Advise:
Fill lower legs with resin and than pin the rear and lower sections together.
This will also give the kit weight and stability.

Overall I prefer the Argonauts Vinyl, a few pinholes but a pleasure to work with.
