scratchbuilt sovereign class escape pod

Very nice model!! I've always thought it was an odd design for a life boat, but you make it look logical as a Lander.

sheer awe, being a trekkie, i'm in love. I hope the article is published-i want one.

i had very little info on the dims of the pod to start with. the hatch is accurate size according to the diagram i started with. if the opening is 6-8 ft tall that would put the tree at about 12 -18 ft . so i would have to say that it should hold between 10-12 crewman.

Marvelous job! I have the notion to build a huge one of those & use it for a coffee table in my model room! Well, it kinda looks like one! Anyway, great job!

The thing looks huge!! (Scale-wise speaking, of course.) Is the size accurate, with scale to the door? I was under the impression that a standard escape pod could carry only about six people in none too plush accomodations. (In other words, "cramped"!) With the door for reference, the pod looks like it nearly has the square footage of a Runabout.

as far as pictures during the construction, i took several at different stages of construction with a digital camera but haven't the slightest idea how to post them as i am not up to speed with this computer stuff. i am looking at the possibility of sending them along with a written description of the construction process to finescale to see if they'd be interested in printing it. i know that they recieve many submissions for articles but i'll take a chance.

the model was constructed completely from styrene sheet and strips.as reference i used ana picture from star trek the magazine and after measuring some angles i drew different sections on some card stock paper i had laying around and constructed a paper model. after some adjustments i transferred the sections to a heavy guage sheet plastic and constructed a plastic model duplicating the paper one. i added a scatchbuilt interior and fibre optic lighting along with an escape ramp .i estimate the scale to be somewhere in the range of 1:80 to 1:100 judging by the foliage used on the base.4 -aa ies were ued as the power source and are hidden under the name plate with a small switch at the rear of the base hidden by a bush/tree.

Very nice, but I prefer the Walker lower down.

Nicely done. Was this all styrene? What was the size? Do you have any "during construction" pics? As a fellow scatchbuilder I'm interested in the procedure.
