1/72 Destroid Defender - anyone build one?
Posted by Cosmic J on Friday, June 25, 2010 1:10 AM

So I've been looking through sci-fi kits on E-bay, and I keep seeing the Macross 1/72 scale Destroid kits for sale. The prices for these kits are always high, usualy around the $80 - $100 range.

Now I have some of the Bandai 1/00 scale re-pops (the Defender and the Attack Tomahawk), and I liked those, so I'm thinking of splurging on the larger scale kits.

Thing is, I can't find any images or pictures of the 1/72 scale kits after they've been completed. Has anybody seen these kits finished, and could you point me to or post some pictures? Any help would be much appreciated.

OMG... Are you serious? $80-$100?

I have a 1/72 Defender buried somewhere in the stash, but I wouldn't know where to start looking for it (had it since the mid-80's) . Unfortunately I have no idea how well it builds up. I believe I also have both renditions (1/160 and 1/200) of the Destroid Monster (also deep in the stash).

I built the Imai 1/72 Defender and it was pretty neat for what modeling technology was then, detail is I think really good but not Hasegawa good. I think even though these are pricey I think you'll be happy. I always wanted a Tomahawk but couldn't find one at the time. Yamato makes a 1/60 fully articulate toy actually more like a highly detailed preassembled model but the Destroid models go for around $75-$120 but do a hell of a lot more than the model kits ever could (access panels, accessable weapons pods/missile pods etc.). Good luck hope this helps. P.S. the old Arii kits aren't worth a damn detail is awful in 1/100 or less, don't bother.

@ Phil H: Yup, $100. When I first started this thread, there was one on there for exactly $100 – don’t know if it sold though.

I saw another, and the bidding had started at about $20 w/ $22 shipping. That’s why I asked about what the kit is actually like – if it normally runs for $100, then $45 or so might be a bargain. It wound up selling for over $60 though, which I wasn’t willing to pay.

If you have one lying around, you may want to consider selling. I might know  a guy who might be interested. Big Smile

@ mic53mlb: Thanks for the info. I knew about the toys, whenever I do an image search lots of pictures of them come up. For a toy, they’re pretty impressive.

You wouldn’t happen to have any pictures of your kit built up, would you? Maybe ones you’d be willing to share?

I know that Wave is supposed to be releasing an Attack Tomahawk in 1/72 scale sometime soon, I’ll probably just wait to get one of those. Less uncertainty that way.

P.S. the old Arii kits aren't worth a damn detail is awful in 1/100 or less, don't bother.

Oops! Too late. The old 1/100 Tomahawk is what I’m working on now.  GeekedI’ll try to get some pictures up soon.

Thanks y’all.

That's because it is (or was) the same. The Warhammer was originally the Tomahawk from Macross.

FASA lifted a number of original Macross and Dougram designs for Battletech/Mechwarrior. After the legal issues, some designs were discontinued and some were altered.

Interesting list here: http://brianscache.com/unseen/

LOL! And still no images of one built up. I'm beginning to suspect hardly anyone ever built this model... maybe there's only like 10 of them out there, and they keep changing hands on E-bay. Big Smile

Well, maybe not one of those Defenders... I can't justify the price unless I see one built up first, but I might have something else in store... Whistling

Maybe one of these?  Wink

I have a 1:100 that I started years ago ( yet another that you guys reminded me of that needs to be finished ) and a couple of spares that came in lots on auction where there was something else that I wanted.  I'm with you on the idea of a 1:72 for a lineup with the Valks in that scale, but that collectors' price is one heck of a deterrent for anything from Arii, IMHO.

Personally, I'm hoping Wave keeps going with the lineup after the 1:72 Tomahawk.

I have build the 1/72 and multiple 1/100 kits of it. They were ok for their age.

Myself looking forward to the Wave Kit. pricey but Wave kits tend to be worth it.

One reason why the 1/72 kits go for a high price on the Bay is that they were hardly reissued, same was many regult, etc kits were never reissued.

Gaahhh!!! I'm so jealous. Crying

$9.99 eh? You know what you should do? You should sell it to me for $20. That way you'd make a 100% profit! Wink

On a serious note, that is much more detailed than the kit i have. Still not worth $100 though. I with you guys in hoping that Wave does one of these.

I'd better not mention what else I found  in my stash then. Big Smile I did find a 1/72 scale Spartan too (ugly beast that it is).

It's insane...

I was poking around on Ebay and there's a couple of the 1/100 scale Defenders up there for $74.99 and $99.00 Indifferent
