Bandai Hover truck WIP
Posted by ajlafleche on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 8:22 AM

Here are some WIP shots of my current project, Bandai’s Gundam based hover truck. I’m building with a Maxon quad .50 turret in the bed. Using the best gizmology I can, I’m detailing the cockpit area which has no details at all in the kit.

Many of the sub assemblies in the kit are exceptionally well fitting snap tight connections which fit super snugly.

View of the cockpit floor from the front. In this shot, the driver’s position is to the right and on the left is a jump seat for a back up gunner for the Vulcan turret. In the ccenter is a two person seat to man the remote control station for an Nitto Krote to be built as a remotely operated scout.

View of the cockpit from the rear. The large scressn display is in the center. In the left is the joystick contol, on the right, the trigger. On each side is a hand held remote device on a coiled wire.

View of the cockpit from above.

Driver’s dash with large head up display.

View of the roof array.

Roof array from the driver's side.

Roof array from the assistant gunner's side.

Location of the Maxon turret in the bed.

Love the idea for the interior, but I am not sure that it matches what was actually in there...

If you need reference pics of the interior of this beast, the best place to find them in the (short) anime series, MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM: THE 8TH M.S. TEAM (note: in all caps to differentiate the title from what I'm saying, not shouting at you). There should (hopefully) be some nice pics or short videos online, if you don't have, or cannot get copies of the series on DVD. The series has a ton of scenes with crew members using one of these hover trucks.

It's Scifi, no one will be (or should ever be) offended by how you build your model. Keep up the great work.

Also, why are you putting a quad 50 in the bed? Not that in isn't totally awesome, but I'd never though to do that.

Nevertheless, I look forward to more updates, and (again) keep up the great work!!!Captain

Subscribed.

I like the cockpit modifications you’re doing, wanting to see more.

I myself built one of these recently, although I didn’t modify mine much. It’s a nice looking kit when finished, and an impressive size on the shelf. I doubt you’ll need any advice, but if you do, feel free to ask.

Keep us updated please.

Whoa, tough crowd. This thread deserves more than 3 stars. Black Eye

I can't give it a better rating for some reason. Have the stars been disabled again?

Well, I like what you've got going on here, and I'd like to see more. Please keep us updated. Yes

Who cares about the stars.  I wana see what he does with this too.

Ya know, all these people taking scifi kits and turning them into semi realistic things makes me want to take armor and plane kits and turn them into scifi.

I do. I also care about proper punctuation, but that's just me.

Would have used a question mark if it had been a question, but it was not, it was a statement.

WOW, how did I miss this one until today.  You have a new fan sir and I look forward to seeing what you do with this much modified Hover Truck.  I am also a BIG FAN of the Quad, for those who have never seen what a single 50 cal. can do, would crap your paints when all four of those beauties lite up, and you sure as heck would not want to be on the end facing them!Dead

I really like the mods, well thought out and clean building, methodical work, is GOOD!Toast

The "Star" rating system has been turned off. All current "ratings" will remain as they are.

Thanks for the comments. The truck is coming along...added some paint to the interior, still a way to go. Did sub assembly work on the power pods, they are ready to be attached.

By all means, be creative with regular kits and make them into sci-fi subjects. I've seen a twin boomed Stars Wars racer blended with a P-51 to very cool effect. The beauty of this type of modeling, there are no prototypes to compare teh models to. The only rules are those of logic and to some degree, physics, i.e., would this make sense and be doable, even if you had to imagineer the technology.

Scifi is the only place where there are no rivet counters (besides startrek and starwars)

The interior has been painted on the hover truck…much of this has been lost as the upper and lower hull were assembled today.

Hey Al,

This is looking amazing. The 163 turret and cupola additions are really nice touches.

Thanks, Phil...I had the kit Vulcan ready, but it just looked too out of scale and a bit cartoonish.
