Phil_H

Thanks CJ.

I think the broad look of the fuselage is the result of the nose being too long and narrow. The rear of the nose section also lacks depth because it cuts upward below the cockpit, resulting in the "head" being recessed too deeply. The centre fuselage between the engines is far too shallow with the representation of the (retracted) arms being extremely undersized. The new Wave 1/100 Valkyrie kits  look gorgeous compared to this one, but they out-price the Hasegawa 1/72 scale kits...Tongue Tied

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I couldn't pinpoint it exactly, but the shape does look ...odd.

I agree re the new Wave kits, and I'd like to show my support them for coming up w/ new molds, but I still prefer the look of the hasegawa 1/72 kits  - and for the price, I can't justify them. I still like the idea of a Macross GB, though. Big Smile

Again man, I appreciate it.

if I can give a tip with the pannel lines if you think they would be to thick.  Once you put it down get the towl you use, or a Q tip and run it down the pannel, it should get the excess in the center of it, and only leave what is in the edges and corners.

You're missing the point of the thread, stv. Phil_H is showing me the Arii 1/100 scale Valkyrie, at my request. The fact that the panel lines aren't fixed is part of the reason I wanted to see them - I wanted to get a good idea of what the kit looks like in it's raw form.

Besides, if you really want to fix panels like those, you fill them w/ superglue, sand them flush, and then rescribe them. Big Smile

I had considered it but the panel lines on this kit are ridiculously heavy, both deep and wide. A panel line wash would look, well.... comical.

The finish isn't very nice either - as I mentioned, the paint refused to co-operate and it ended up a little heavy. It was just a "get it done and out of the way" build.. Smile

Hey, it looks great, the finish is wonderful, but the pannel lines bug me a bit.  You can easily fill them without damaging your finish and it would add a MASSIVE amount of depth to your kit.

My best suggestion would be to follow this guide

he gets wonderful results

I also thought the Wave kits  looked really nice, and was impressed with the VF-0 battloids I got from them, but I'm already stocked up with enough of the Hasegawa VF-1s to where I think it'd be a bad idea to get any more.

Now, the Wave 1:72 Tomahawk, on the other hand...

Thanks CJ.

I had tried to preshade the panels after priming with flat white, but Tamiya Gloss White being the finicky thing that it is, the preshade kept bleeding through and it just looked dirty. In the end I just kept applying coats of white until I got rid of the "dirty" look.

Thanks for showing these Phil_H. I really appreciate it.

I'm going to echo the sentiments of others, and say you did a fine job w/ these, especially considering what you started with. The finish is super clean, which isn't easy to do in white. I'm guessing there was a lot of sanding and filling.

I see what you meant about the overall shape. The nose looks too long and pointed, and the body seems extra wide and bulky. And dig those crazy panel lines... you could lose a small dog in those things. Big Smile

Again, thanks and great job. Yes

Thanks Kugai. She actually looks better int he pics than in real life.

It was started some 20+ years ago by a then 7-8 year old and the major parts (nose, fuse, wings) brush painted in flat white enamel. I was able to remove most od the unwanted paint and clean out the panel lines, which were quite deep to start with.

Previously worked on and and Arii 80s-era Macross kit?

Nice job, especially with the double-whammy you started the project with!

Arii 1/100 VF-1J Valkyrie (req by Cosmic J)

This is an ancient Arii 1/100 VF-1J - not one of my better efforts, but Cosmic J wanted to see what it looked like.

The kit had been started by someone else some years ago and  in parts had patchy brushed enamel paint on it.

I had some issues with the paint (Tamiya acrylics) - picked up a squeeze bottle of water instead of thinner and then wondered why the paint was taking so long to dry and drying with an eggshell-like finish instead of gloss. After letting it dry for about a week, I recoated with properly thinned paint and had better results.

Anyway, here's the pics.
