1/100 MG EXIA
Posted by Gunpla Master on Monday, August 23, 2010 5:36 PM

I thought it would be best since this was a new build, to start a thread for it .  As I have already posted on another thread, this is a project I have been studying for the past few weeks.  So between other projects, while paint drys, I believe I will give this one a go.  I pretty much will build straight out of box.

This subject comes in two versions in the kit, one complete and no damage, the other a battle vet w/damage.  It is this one I intend to build.

I will detail paint but do not foresee a paint project of every piece.  I want to build and only paint what is needed to bring the details out.  That is one of the neat things about Gundam modeling, you can paint the complete thing or just what you want.

This is also a kit w/ignition mode included in the suit, this will be a 1st f/me in a 1/100th scale Gundam.

Keep watching for up-dates.  Propeller

Thought I would up-date this as well.  I will build as the damaged version as supplied in the kit, but I will put a little twist in the buildSurprise.

Have studied the instructions very well and have also watched every You Tube video I can find in English.  Have a good understanding of the short falls and the +'s.  Of which there is some major areas that require attention.  But over all this is one bad dude.  Oh yea, another one of the good guys as well, guess for what ever side you choose to be on.

There seems to be a issue with the GN Ignition Drive, seems it might flicker when turned on, not all do it, but quite a few have?  Not too cool when you consider what the kit cost to get this feature!!!!!

Will pick up the 4 LR41 batteries that it takes for the power unit.  If a younger modeler was building, he has already laid out a chunk of allowance money  for the kit, and now will have to spend more to get the drive to work w/not cheap batteries?  Some times I wonder just who these kits are really directed @?

Keep watching, 1st I need to finish up a RX-78 and severial other projects, but this one will follow.

May the Force, oh wait thats another subject! Cool  GM

I will follow your build carefully, GM.

If you have any questions on Gundam Exia, or Gundam00, feel free to ask.

P.s. Saw the RX-78 in the 'kneel before your god' thread--keep up the good work.Geeked

The LED-Unit for the Exia and other kits is from Gashapon Toys.

Problem with those is the cover to hold the Batteries in place.

The Screw used to secure the cover in place is one of those(sarcasm) lovely(/sarcasm) screws that strip when you look at them lopsided and don't seem to fit a standard screw-driver.

Yeah like some of those screw in the older MG kits.

Poor little post was way down the list and had to hunt to find, now we just shan't have that.  I was shocked to find out it was going to cost me $16.00 to put the four batteries that is called for in the GN Drive to get it to light up, well I purchased after much thinking and have laid out the beginnings for this build.  Now if I can just bring myself to tear open the blister pack f/the batteries, $16.00 f/4 little batteriesBoo Hoo.  At least I started off w/them, but when they dye, so sorry Charlie is all I can say f/the GN Drive!  And no batteries will be left stored in the suit either.  So w/o any further ado, EXIA has officially begun.  lets see, that now makes 4 kits going @ same time, Dunce.

Yikes, those batteries are pricey where you are.

Looking forward to the build as I did the kit a few months ago. Did the damaged version but watch out the instructions can be confusing as to what part/stickers, etc to use.

But kit builds up ok.

4 kits in progress, I got 8 on the Burner right now. :P But than I like to build and paint in batches.

Might be due to my old wargaming days, where we painted figures(like 30) in batches/Factory style.

GN Drive has been completed and the upper body is snapped together.  Will mod a few areas and start the painting process with this section.

A quick photo:  GN Drive installed and lite.  Tough to get a completely focused photo w/my Sony and the flash turned off.  As still as I can be, yet slight movement results in a out of focus look.  But I still think the effect is really cool if I my say so!Surprise

Worked on the head mods.  This is what I came up w/for a few added details.  The eye is a MV Lens, the power cable is a Snake Chain from Mechaskunk and the small screws and backing plate were ordered from HQ Parts.  I think the thing is just sinster.Devil
