First model in ages. BSG Viper
Posted by DrShrinker on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 1:54 PM

First model in about 10 years, and recent re-subscriber to FSM.

However this is not the last model I've built. Last model was a Power Loader from Aliens, i have a few pics but they all look terrible and don't do the kit much justice.

Ok, onto this kit. When the new BSG was entering its final season I wanted to find a kit of the new Viper. I didn't have much luck finding one i could actually afford. But i really wanted to get back into the hobby so i got the old one instead and decided to paint it similar to the new one. (white instead of the grey) The hanger bay is scratch built but not modeled on anything from the show, just stuff that came together to make something neat. Probably more inspired by 70's sci fi movies more than anything.

Keep in mind this model has already been sitting on a shelf for a year or so.
I look at it now and say, "i coulda done this", "masked that", and so on. I dont think i'll ever go back to it unless i maybe add some figures, i can only assume maybe 1-48 scale avaition mechanics, i dunno.

Anyhoo, i learned a lot working on this and just thought i'd share.

I did pick up the New BSG viper that was released not too long ago. Gunna give it a go this winter i think.

Thanks for looking.

...just stuff that came together to make something neat....

I'll say! Very well done. Like the model and I like the scene, very imaginative. Really fine work for not having modeled in 10 years!

Now that's good stuff, right there. I really like all that detail in the hanger. Cool

Very nice build, me likey.

One question? You still got the Instructions for the Aliens 1/12 Power Loader. I seem to have misplaced mine and was about to start adding the tubing(need them for the the tubing lengths and how to route them).

If possible to ask a favour could you scan them for me?

Thanks for the comments guys.

@ Mad-Modeler I might, but its all in Japanese and i dont have a scanner. I could maybe take a pic of them, you might not get the proper length (although if i do actually find them i can just bust out the ruler and measure them for ya) but you would at least know which tube goes where. Its not the Halcyon kit, it the remake, the one where Ripley looks nothing like Ripley. I look around later when i get home.

Thx.

Pics would be great, I am used to Japanese instructions and have build the kit before.

If I know the locations for each tube I can always approximate the length for one side than copy on the other.

Many Thanks.

Well the first first words out of my mouth where oh s**t Yes Nice job! damn that is a great dio!

That has all the qualities of a great dio, excellent the way your eye wants to travel through the scene, and pick out all the small things that are happening instead of just focusing on one overall picture.

That looks great.  What a great job turning a great model into something truly special to look at.  I love the walls and all the details on them.

If at first you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment.

Great job on that one.  Added with the background, it's prime contest material.

@DrShrinker:

Thx, those Pictures are perfect. BTW, the Halcyon Ripley is just as bad as the Aoshima release.

All downloaded and saved to my Memory-stick.

Awesome, eye-popping work! Truly a feast for the eyes!! Yep, your detail work is truly fantastic --- my favorite is the many details you've got throughout the hanger/garage area! Woof!

Can't wait ta see what you do with the Mk. II!! Keep up the great work!

Regards and Aloha,
