RG: Zeon Fans rejoice!
Posted by Mad-Modeler on Saturday, September 18, 2010 11:47 PM

Hey Guys & Gals.

The next Real Grade Kits has been announced and it will be the "Char Zaku II", personally I would have prefered the Plain Vanilla Zaku II.

Kit release is set for November, meaning the 25th(as Bandai usually releases on the 25th).

Already placed a Pre-order for 2 Kits(2 Builders in the House). Not all online stores are taking pre-orders just yet.

Maybe we have a build-off using some RG kits?

Have fun as always.

P.S.: I know smeagol will be happy with that announcement.

P.P.S: Current pre-orders of kits I want are standing at around 10 for the next 5 months.

Eh...

After the RG Gundam I had high hopes for the RG line... The RG Gundam design is like a mix-up of the various MG and PG Gundam versions prior to the MG v2.0.  They even took some design cues from the MG Gundam v1.0 (the feet, particularly)...  I had hoped the other releases in the new line would do similarly: break with the recent MG v2.0 version and head off in a new direction...

Instead, the RG Zaku is basically a scale-down of the MG Zaku v2.0.  What a drag.

The MG v2.0 isn't all bad but there's some parts of it I definitely don't like - like the spike armor and the lower legs...

Very cool, I want a RG Dom though, those have always been clunky kits, the legs always madem to hard to stand up right.  I wana see them do one correctly.

as far as char's zaku II vs a normal one.  The antenna is the only difference if your painting.  Even then, the Antenna is a commander's distinguisher, all command units had one, not just char

I'm not sure how Real Grade is going to change anything there...  It's a basic problem of the Dom's proportions, right?  You can't really change that without making it no longer a Dom...  Or are you referring to something else?  A problem with the joints or something?

It depends.  Ever since the first MG Zakus in 1995, Char's Zaku has had some kind of structural difference from the regular ones.  (HGUC has been the main exception...)  In MG 1.0 this was just bigger thrusters on the backpack and extra thrusters on the legs.  In Perfect Grade, the shape of the legs and the backpack was actually different, with rounded pods over the thrusters.  (That's my favorite version of the "differentiated Char's Zaku", personally...)  In MG v2.0, Char's Zaku had a bigger backpack and a differently-shaped lower leg with added thrusters...

I guess we won't know how RG Char's Zaku is distinguished until the green counterpart comes out.  It seems like the RG Char's Zaku has the same distinguishing features as the MG v2.0 version (three thrusters on the back of each leg, the big backpack, etc.) but with the same leg shape as the MG Zaku-F v2.0 (none of the extra bulge on the back that the Char's version had)...  Of course, we don't know which of these features will be blindly carried over to the green version...  Presumably they'll blank off the third thruster on each leg and provide a smaller backpack...  Though we won't know until the green version is unveiled.

The zakus has a ton of variants, they were like WWII American Shermans.  diffrent cannons, rockets launchers on some, diffrent armor on others, mine sweepers, mine plows, bull dozer shovels, etc.

Char's was a Commander type zaku painted red.

As far as the dom goes the frames have never been sturdy and the hips wernt built well enough to support the size of the legs.  On the line art the legs work perfectly fine but they never followed it correctly for the kits.
