Doctor Who bits

Some Daleks and a Sonic Screwdriver I made some years back while in uni.... The Daleks are 1:4 and cast in fibreglass from masters fabricated in styrene and chemiwood, the screwdriver is turned aluminium and chemiwood. In its original incarnation it was a functioning prop with a built in power supply for the LEDs, but it had to be mounted on a fixed stand for display in our exhibition...

Wow, awesome work and welcome to the forum!

I think the silver Dalek with the blue spheres is the original model, the dark grey one with the black spheres is the '70s-'80s model and of course the heavy weapons variant stands by itself. I'm scratching my head over the black and brass one with the violet lights. I've only seen about 1/3 of the episodes so I'm no expert on the show so could you please fill me in on what version and episode it's from?

Cheers! Toast The black and gold one is a bit of a cheat - it's a Supreme Dalek from the old sixties movie with Peter Cushing as The Doctor... Not Dcotor Who cannon, but too nice a colour scheme to resist! ;)

Thanks!!!

Odd, I've got the film on DVD and I remember the bright red and blue Daleks but not the Supreme one. Well, it's a good excuse to pull the movie out and watch it again!

Well...

I hate you...  So much...

They look fantastic

What did you use to make the dots?

We need more Dr Who stuff.  I want baddly to make a large Dio of the time war, a TARDIS fighting a dalek saucer, but they dont ever show what a tardis looks like naturally.

cheers! :D The skirt hemispheres, what a nightmare!! I cast them in resin from some appropriately sized acrylic domes which I bought... What a pita! Each had to be jigged and drilled for a pin to locate them on the skirt...

Hello si.treadhead. Just curious but does your name suggest a fellow tanker as in AFV?  I am just floored by your builds.  The Key is a piece of art and the Daleks are just wonderful.  Happens to be one of my all time favorites, you mentioned Peter Cushing from the old 60's movies, and yes, the Black/Gold is there as the Supreme.  I was stationed overseas and AFN would run this movie about every other month as a Matinee.  No matter how many times they showed it, I watched it!

Question, do you kit them for sale.Cool

Oh yes, definitely another tank nut! ;) Haven't made any in ages, but I've got a Panther on the bench atm and a DUKW and Hetzer knocking about somewhere which both need finishing,,,

No kits I'm afraid, I sold a couple on fleabay, but around that time the BBC got pissy with people infringing on their IP and that put an end to them...

Besides, I'm down to the gunner and the supreme (which is on long term loan to my old uni) and I don't think I particularly want to part with either!

Dang...  Wish I had the metalworking skills and gear to make a screwdriver...  I've been making do with the toy version.

Awesome models.

I would love a Tardis kit. Airfix made one a few years ago, but it was like $80 and out of production now.

The tardis kit isn't bad, I have it, havent built it.  I wana get decal paper and make the decals for police box and the sign on the door isntead of using the STICKERS it included.

Ya know, appart from the little sound thing on there that makes the tardis noise, I have no idea why it was so much, definatly over priced

Very nice! Is the marbling effect on the screwdriver from the wood grain?

Nope it's a crackle medium I got in a hobby shop. You apply a basecoat, then a layer of the medium, then an acrylic topcoat which cracks as it dries. You can get a similar effect with spraycans if you spray a matter paint over a gloss...

There isn't actually any woodgrain, chemiwood is an artificial material (sometimes called modelboard). It's a filler bound in resin, similar to a slab of cured car body filler... Great stuff to work with!

I was reading back and saw you had a Panther on your bench, and I thought, a 1/35th scale of Daleks fighting the SS would be such a cool little Dio, a Panther and some Storm Troopers attacking a Dalek would be such a funny cool Dio.

Other news, Me and my bff are attempting to Build a Tardis Christmas Ornament from scratch out of wood.  Were gona use some train lights to light the lantern on the top and the windows.  Any chance you have any suggestions we could use?
