SUPERMARINE 300.........Another Post Apocalypse Model.
Posted by Barry C Hark on Saturday, November 13, 2010 10:53 AM

Before I start........just watched ENGLAND vs AUSTRALIA,

AMAZING The England team us fans have been waiting for !    35-18Big Smile

well done boys,Great day for English Rugby, great work to build on for the World Cup.

Any way, with a big smile on my face ! heres my new Post Apocalypse Model

the SUPERMARINE 300.

The idea behind this car is that of a scout/recon type of Car. but I wanted something more classic looking like a 40's 50's European Race car but Patchy looking and thrown together.

As a base I used the Chassis and Engine from a 1/24 Mercedes 300 SL Milli Millia Race Car and added extra styrene sections to the frame to bulk up what would be mostly exposed.

The body work is taken from bits of a 1/35 Super Marine Spitfire Mk V.

"Hence the name SUPERMARINE 300". I liked the look of the parts and with minor modifactions they fitted the chassis well.

The wheels and tyres are taken from a 1/24 series III 109 Land Rover and a single cannon has been scratch built and housed in the centre of the car oppsite the Driver.

The colour for the car has been inspired by the 1935 BLUE BIRD Land speed Record Car.

and in some way, the shape........

Im really looking forward to the next phase....weathering.

I will be applying simaler streaky rust patterns to the Supermarine like I have done on the Desert Rat.

along with faded patchy paint work and lots of dust with general wear and tear.

Working on the Model this weekend so I will post more Photos soon.

Take care and all the best,

Barry.

Cool post Apocalypse vehicle Barry!

The addition of a figure on this one adds a lot to the presentation. Good work.

you should most definatly use some Pastells and put some dust and mud and grime on the wheels and such of this kit, would make a world of difference.

Hey hey, where are the blueprints? The technical c=specs... no building something just because you want to!!! Wink

But seriously, that is a really sharp looking vehicle, glad to see someone building straight out of their brain & enjoying it so much. Also a great way to clean out the spares collection isn't it! Thanks for sharing.

Barry,

Mate, I have to admit...I'm very impressed with the work you did on this.  Very well kitbashed and very well finished.

My personal opinion thought the weathering might not really have been needed...or maybe less is more...BUT...

Having said THAT...I think the Supermarine 300 is just...outstanding.  Man...you did some very fine work there.  All too often kitbashes like these end up looking...wrong...but not this beastie...

Very impressive.  Thanks for sharing, mate.

Cheers, LeeTree

Seriously cool stuff Barry!

I recently met a fellow who has worked on a movie making models. The movie did not score well at the box office or critics (personally I could not watch more than 20 minutes) Yet he 'lived the dream' building models for film.

I helped him identify some parts used on science fiction vehicles such as those built for 'Space Odyssey 1999'

Interesting how crude some of those models were, one detail the modeler left the sprue frame attached for added detail. Another showed all ejector pin marks and even a 'A' marking from the sprue identification.

Anyhow looking forward to the 'Supermarine 300' photo shoot.

Thanks for comments Guys,

and yes....you would be suprised to see what goes on and what we use for some of the methods in film and TV. its a very Hectic and Last minute Industry !

theres hardly ever any planning or Comunitcation, Which usually results in us working 48 hours strait with no sleep to get the Armour on set for filming !

Its a big buzz though and a lot of fun.....im just knackerd most of the time !

When we did the Armour for ROBIN HOOD we had to Redo Russell Crows Armour seven times before he was happy with it !

But thats all part of the Game and once we have finished "Clash" we go strait on to another film...which they wont say what it is ! and the 2nd season of Game of Thrones for HBO.

So im going to be very busy this year !

Might have some time to Photogragh the SUPERMARINE 300 in a Diorama setting !

All the best

Barry.
