Hammers Slammers
Posted by Dr. Hu on Friday, November 19, 2010 9:17 AM

Hi everyone,

This is my first post to this forum. Does anyone know if there are any kits for the Ground Effect Tanks and Combat Cars from the books about Hammer's Slammers by David Drake? I may be interested in a scratch build as well and wondered if asnyone has seen any illistrations of these two things?

Thanks,

Jack

Google Hammer's Slammers. If that don't work too well for you, there are some illustrations based on the game pieces in the books--Vol. 1-3. I can scan them in and upload them for you if you need. (They look pretty wierd.)

How did you come across Hammer's Regiment? just out of curiosity.

a quick search yielded this from www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk

and this:

this is a main battle tank, and is the most common model, however, the recent complete volumization of the series has a different style tank on the cover:

personally, I prefer the ones on the cover (Volume 3 and 2 cover art pictured above.)

Enjoy... and good luck. I've thought about scratchin' these tanks myself...Captain

I read Hammer's Slammers many years ago and periodically pick it up again and reread it and some of the other books in the series. I think the original story that eventually became the first book was a story in Analog. I probably still have it if I want to try and search for it. I saw the game pictures but they don't match the image that I have in my mind, I'm thinking more like an M1A1 Abrams with metal guards covering the sides of the air cushions kind of like the old wheel protectors on some 60's cars. A Patton II might also work as it has a  "Boat" shaped front but the turret is to high. A combination of both?

Now that's a lot closer to what I had in mind. Thanks for the tip. Also in the original stories the leader of Hammer's Slammers was Alois "Hamner". The news media in the original story came up with the name Hammer's Slammers. Just an interesting bit of trvia. Thanks again.

I just received a shipment of 15mm vehicles from Old Crow and they are fantastic!!!!

Great detail and the individual infantry figures almost perfectly match Flames of War figures.
