Thanks for commenting El Taino, glad I could inspire your next build! The hull wasn't so bad. In a previous FSM issue, Aaron Skinner used salt to mask the worn areas to a pretty nice effect. I didn't use that technique and opted to strip the worn areas using paint thinner to see what kind of effect that would make. Not too bad if you ask me. That is an awesome photo reference you got there, wish I'd had it when I started painting.

Good luck on your build and I would love to see it complete!

Nice build oddman, I've got one of these kits last week at my local comic shop for $5.00. Your build just made me put it on my next model to build list. I've done a variety of weathering, but that red hull weathering is a bit scary to me. I've seen the movie prop here in the Science Museum in Minneapolis and also, I have the book from STAR WARS TO INDIANA JONES (ISBN 0-8118-0972-2) with nice reference pictures.

Here is a reference picture from the book, hope it can help someone.

Thanks for sharing oddman!

Definately a nice job on that Firespray.

The Fett looks good too.

Can we get some close-ups of the cockpit?

Looks like you went all out on it.

well, the thing is, whenever I have an AMT kit out, I cannot help but try to superdetail it. (I did that on my Falcon, Jango's slave 1, speeder bike...) It's just SCREAMING for detail! And Since I'm an EU Junkie...

*shrugs* maybe I'll try to bang it out. The things that need the most correction are the panel lines, canopy, and cockpit.  Maybe I should just focus on re-scribing it.... (goes out to plot) you know, you've just gotten me to start the 4th kit in the past 2 weeks. And I wonder why I never get anything done... Alright, I'll take the challenge. I'll try not to jump in a Sarlacc if it gets too painful...

Stage Left, thanks for positive feed back!

Drk75, thanks for the comment and I see you're pretty new to the forums! Welcome and enjoy yourself! Be sure to post your work! My caliber of work isn't nearly as impressive as most people that frequent the forum but the most important thing is to learn and improve.

Boba Fett, you are correct, the panel is misaligned to a certain degree. It was a pain in the neck that in fact WAS filled with copious amounts of filler before I got it to look as good as it does...which isn't that good. You should build the one you have in the stash, I would be anxious to see what the real Boba Fett could do to it Big Smile...that and misery loves company and this is a miserable kit!

You can NEVER go too heavy on the dry-brushing with the Slave 1... Looks fantastic! The only I ssue I can see is that stupid center panel where han in carbonite is supposed to go. Just a little mis-aligned... (though I think it's impossible to get that thing ti blend in without  copious amounts of filler. ) The painting is Grade-A! Fantastic job on that! Fett Approved! Yes

Oddman- your final weathering makes the colors of this ship look really good, at least to me. The wear and tear looks spot on.

Thanks Hercmech, I appreciate it. The red and green were also my favorites. I'm still not sure if I got a good color match on the gray areas. This makes for the first completed model of 2011.

Jon,

I think it came out fantastic. I really like the red and the green areas. I think you captured the look perfectly not to heavy on the drybrushing to my eyes. Stunning.Yes

TD4438 look forward no further, she is complete, and I have proof in pictures!

So there you have it. It was fun finishing this beat up ship. Let me know if you think I was heavy on the dry brushing. Sometimes I can't help myself, I really like the way it brings the details out.

Thanks for looking!

I'll be looking forward to the completion of this build.

This is yet another kit I have in the stash that I swear I'll get around to some day.

Yeah the fit was rough...you can probably see the wings are misaligned. The little pegs molded to the base of the wings did little to keep them in place and level. I tried adding some rod to help support them but the one side still sagged a bit. The other major problems were the canopy glass and the removable panel that is suppose to house the frozen Han Solo included in the kit. Needless to say, I didn't make it removable as the gaps were just too obscene. I filled the gaps and left it closed.

Like I can resist ANY hread related to star wars? I built this kit a while ago, but I painted it up as Jango's ride. The terrible fit... uugh. And the plastic did not earn any compliments from me either. But it looks the part. I have another in teh stash... hmmm...

I like it, oddman- no criticisms here. Looks like you've got a good start on making it the well-used ship it is in the movies!

Hi, I opened a thread a long, long time ago but didn't feel like hunting for it within the bowels of the forum so I'll open another one. This is the old AMT kit. Very simple but had a few fit issues. Here it is painted with preliminary weathering complete. I just gave it a dull coat and will proceed with the wash and last bits of the weathering process this weekend.

I didn't use the salt method, as outlined in a previous issue of FSM. Instead, I laid the paint down and pulled up the chipped areas using simple paint thinner. The colors I think are a little off...the body looks a bit too gray. The kit didn't come with a painting guide so I had to use pics to figure out where to paint and what color to paint it. I tried to get the colors as close as I could. Some of the pics are lightened so that may also throw the colors off a bit.

Feel free to criticize! Thanks!
