Good start to the kit.

It's interesting to see how builders seem to take several different approaches to dealing with the Bussard domes on this kit, from lighting to all the varied, creative painting options.

For the bussard, I just used the candy apple red with an undercoat of red acrylic since it was so transparent when it dried.  I am going to tape off the parts that need to remain clear and then prime and paint.  Still looking for the right gray to paint it.

Here is where I am at now.  I just finished priming this weekend and will be painting it this upcoming weekend.  Some minor blemishes, but a great way to expand on how to build models before working on some of the others I would like to start.

Here is the model, now painted.  The gray came out more tan in tone then I wished.  May have to either redo, or count it as a learning experience and build the model again in the future.

it's a shame that it has taken me since May to make some head way on this build and post it.  I have all of the decals on it that I am going to put on.  (Is it my imagination, but are decals more delicate then they were in the past?)

Well I am using this as my lessons learned project, because as it stands, it may not be displayed.  It was thefirst time I've ever had to mask, fill in seams, or use a spray can to paint a model, which is saying something.  Please let me know what you think, and the next build hopefully will not take as long.

Thanks for the compliment, I still have to spray the dullcote on.  Have to head to the hobby shop and pick it up.  Just another excuse to see what they have there. :)

That looks great. It'll look even better after the dullcoat is on. Nice little kit. Good work, too.

Still waiting to get the dullcote, which is annoying considering a number of the hobby stores near work and home do not even carry it.  They have the laquer glosscote and dull cote, but I believe that is the one I am not suppose to use on a enemals.

I aribrush lacquer Dullcoat over enamels all the time.  Maybe not if you use a rattle can.  I would take a serious look at your alignment of saucer and nacelles before getting too far down the road on this one.

Thanks for the info.  I had a major issue with one of the nacelles breaking the tab that kept it aligned.  So this model is going into the "test technique" category.  So many alignment issues that I may just do it all over again.  I will tackle this model again in the future, so maybe doing the dullcote laquer from the rattle can might not be an issue.

This one is a good example of what dcaponeII is talking about ;)
