Jupiter 2 Year one
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 23, 2011 7:10 AM

Howdy!

I am currently building a model that's very near and dear to my heart. The 18" 1/35 Jupiter 2 from Moebius, as she looked in the first season.

What does that mean you ask??

Well an out of box build will give you the Jupiter 2 as she looked in the latter part of year three...To replicate the look I wanted from the first season(and best season), many modifications were needed. I also will be displaying the ship on the launch cradle(not exactly accurate, as the f' Gemini 12 miniature was used for the lift of sequence), with a expanding diorama as funds permit!!

Here are some of the mods I performed..

Opening and closing airlock hatches.

Ceiling beams(the kit does not include any ceiling beams).

Scratch-built details,Atomic Clock, ultra detail of freezing tube area, Season one Communication station,

Folding Pilots seat(The first season only had one pilot's seat, which when not in use, was folded and stowed in the central area of the main console.(Starting in year 2,a Radar scanner was added, and another Pilot's seat).

Season one coloring(the Jupiter 2 was a light grey, not silver in year one)..Anyhoo, hear are some pics, ....

Just wow! I hope you marked those fire extinguishers are dry powder type given the amount of electronics in the surrounds.

Many Thanks Guys.. Here is the Main flight console, per year one. As I mentioned the single pilots seat was stowed in the center(Begining year 2, a scanner took up this spot)..The couch Pivots close via Pins, so I can display it either way...

Wow.  When I first started scrolling down the pictures I briefly thought you had posted stills from the tv show to show us what you planned to replicate.  Then I realized they were what you did.

Very nice indeed.

...1st Engine Test....

Here's a short video of the engine test on the Jupiter 2...It looks like a blue tint in the video, but it's Bright white Leds.
..I may change that to better reflect the use of incandescent bulbs used in the real miniatures....

This engine comes via my friend Ralph Tenaglia of "Tenacontrols"

I am very happy with the results so far

I am not using any lights in the upper bubble(the interior cabin will light the bubble to my tastes) If I was going to light the upper bubble as well, I would have went with the Voodofx Light kit..I removed the scribed/ribed hatch for the Space Pod and constructed working doors for Battery replacement and Operating switches

Just click on the pic below...

I also sealed the porthole next to the main hatch..why???Because the exterior of this model represents the 4' Filming miniature and never at any time was the porthole open..I think it looks better!!

Again, this is just a crude "test" video of the engine lights..I'll make a better video at a later date....
