Very nice model. I notice however, that the paint around the NCC number looks lighter than the rest of the saucer... is this because of the camera flash, or did something happen to the paint on the model in that area?

The lighter area is where the decals silvered. Other than punching holes in the decal with a needle and flooding it with setting solution I'm not sure there's any way to fix silvering. Censored shame because she's a great looking model otherwise. I think it's cool that you did the pre-series Connie, not the version you normally see.

it's a very pretty enterprise.

i think the only way to remove the silvering of the decals would be to cut away the clear between the letters.

This is a build from a while back that I never got to photograph.  I did a new series of photographs because I wanted to see if I could get some shots with the goal of eliminating the glaring decal silvering you see in them. I wasn't successful this time either, but I figured I'd share shots of the build anyway.  I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about this kit, and it went together well, except for the known issue with the warp engine snap fit and a lot of sanding on the secondary hull.  Also, as mentioned, I didn't gloss coat enough, so the decals silvered.  I chose to build it as the Intrepid because I love a lot of the names of the WW2 era ships.  Here's some pics.  I played with some post-processing settings to bring out a little color and better darken the background in order to make it look more, well, "spacey":
