I had a thought about the truely prismatic colour on the uniform, what you can potentially test on is the alclad's holographic paint then with clear green/blue over it.

NOW you tell me!

Looks like the alclad prismatic jade paint? I recently used it, too. One thing of note is whilst metallic looking, the initial flinish is actually flat - which can be lightly sanded and cleared over for a gloss finish if required.

Hey Gerry, I like it!

Ok, I'll agree that the stickers aren't all that great but she looks pretty cool otherwise. Maybe some sort of base would be even better. Yes

Okay, this has not been one of my favorite models. Besides my own stupidity with the paint, which I re-painted in the color-shift paint, the decals aren't decals....stupid stickers. Here's a pic of what the box art shows and what you get on the right side.

pretty sad huh. I could scan the decal and print it on my own clear decal stock but at this point I was sick of it and wanted to move on. I can always do that later.

Here's the finished model with the new paint and all parts put together. Or just go to my webpage.

This model is not my finest moment.... not by a long shot. But then, no one liked what I thought was my finest moment so .... next I'm doing the MACH 5 from Speed Racer.

nice to actually see one of these being built. (pretty rare). i wish you all the best with your new paint. it'd be better if you did it proper, rather than cutting corners with Gunmetal.

Ack! Sorry to hear about your mistake. Well at least you know how it will look now and can go back and duplicate it.

Thinking more about about your idea Alclad II does a line of special prismatic paints for model cars. It's expensive but very cool looking, when you change the direction of the light source the paint seems to change colours. And the metal flakes are very small and look much more in scale. I don't know if this may be of interest or not but it's an idea.

And thanks but I have no idea when I'll get around to doing my kit, I've got piles of stuff I'd like to build first. I just hope I don't die before I get to all my stash. I was thinking about painting a shark mouth on the front of my Scorpion - hey I bet even Romulans think shark mouths are cool Big Smile

Thanks Gamera. Your idea for a build sounds great, looking forward to seeing it.

I've hit a snag. I did the paint but the metal flake is out of scale and looks like glitter. So I darkened it with smoke to tone it down. Worked very well. Until I got STUPID and put lacquer over it.... lacquer of course made the acrylic 'melt' and puddle up in splotches.

I may redo it with the green and leave it bright. Or redo it in Gunmetal and call it a day.

Not sure yet

Gerry: I love the idea, since the ST:TNG and later Romulan ships are green going with a green scheme works for me. Then again if you could do it like Shinzon's costume and have it look black and then green when the light hits it a certain angle it would be cool too.

I picked up one a few years ago with the idea of just doing it as a standard Romulan fighter instead of the Reman rebel ship from the movie. Figured I'd chuck the Jon-Luc and Data figures and modify some regular Romulan figures for the cockpit.

So here is my current project.

Star Trek has always lacked smaller, fighter type ships so I was really happy to get this kit. Now I want it to have an irridecent quality like the villain Shinzon's costume. A buglike sheen like a June Bug.

I’m using Testors PACTRA RC Car Paint Krypton Green/Gold.  Here's how it looks so far.

I'd like your thoughts on this. I think the green is too loud. I'm thinking of darkening it with a layer of clear acrylic Smoke. The stuffed used to tint windows. What you you think? Leave it? Trash it and redo in solid color? Just want to bounce it off your heads to see if I can find inspiration.
