Hi Everyone,
here is my 1/32 Moebius Viper MK.VII. I really enjoyed this build, with the exception of the front cockpit and base, everything else is OOB. Hope you like it!
Great Job, she looks fantastic.
Thank you very much!
I like the wash in the panel lines for accent and the overall worn look. I've read elsewhere that these were a color like "Pontiac Engine Blue" but whether that's true or not I like your bird as well. Nice job.
EDIT: I just stumbled upon this build elsewhere and you replied the paint was a mix of Blue and Aluminum. That would get it in the Pontiac Engine Blue family so I stand corrected to my observation of the color. I guess it's just the photos which appear rather green to me here and now?
Didn't matter- I like what I like and I already liked it.
Thanks!
I know as more of these kits get built, the colour will be a matter of debate. Looking through tons of screen caps and the original Zoic designs, I found the Viper VII's to have four different colours.
In the mini-series they are a very light grey in the hangar under lights, then in the space combat scenes they are a metallic blue.
In the first season, we only have Apllo's Mk.VII to look at, with thus they went to the shade I have on my model, a metallic light blue. This is the shade I like best.
In season two, we run into the Pegasus Viper's. These were light blue/grey in the CGI scenes and the full size studio model was a much darker blue. I take this to be the Pegasus viper that Starbuck flies in "Scar" I didn't particually care for this shade so I stuck with what Starbuck's original Viper VII would have looked like before the Cylon attack. She does not fly this Viper in combat because at the time of the attack, she is in the brig. Hence we don't see her in a Mk.VII until the Pegasus arrives in seson two as Galactica's Mk.VII's were all destroyed in the first attack.
Well, whatever is the right colour, I appreciate your kind words! Cheers!
It looks great!
I had a chance last week to visit the BSG exibition at the Sci-Fi museum in Seattle where they have the actual show props including a generic Mk. II, Apollo's Mk. VII, and the Cylon Raider that Starbuck was supposed to have flown back to Galactica.
I thought about taking picutres but the lighting really sinks and they do not allow flash photography so the few I did get were bad and I deleted them.
As for the color on the Mk. VII it is definetly lighter than the one that they had on display. That one was more grey and a bit darker. But as you mention there are several differences in the renderings of the Mk. VIIs throughout the show so who the frack cares!
Again love the build.
Thanks for your kind words!
It must have been great to see those Vipers up close, something that I would love to do myself! Maybe one day..........
Indeed, a very nice build....I have mine waiting. I was a little disappointed to see some regression in the level of detail on these Mobieus kits since the Mk. II came out. I think that had the best level of detail. The Galactica itself was a little more disappointing, and this kit a bit more so. The exterior is nice, but the insides are pretty barren. I realize there is probably not a lot of info out there, but still.....maybe the ran out of $$$s after tooling the exterior. But hey, you get optional 'parts' for a female pilot !
Really nice work on this I have a MK II i want to start on soon
Thanks! I have some Mk.I's as well, not sure how I want to pose them yet though!
magnific viper i presume from latest season, don't remember this type from the first season of new galactica
rtoo speed makes ugly results, too relax don't make results
bsyamato magnific viper i presume from latest season, don't remember this type from the first season of new galactica
The reason you saw the MkIIs so much is because these were vulnerable to the viruses that the Cylons could transmit to newer ships. The MkVIIs were the ones that got shut down and wiped out by a single missile salvo from 2 Raiders while Boomer and Helo had to run away in the miniseries.
a beautiful model, I can almost see it catapult down the launch tube, brilliant.
Terry.
P.s. I have one of these and a Mk. II.
Very nice. What color did you end up using for the hull color? What technique did you use for weathering (allowing you to see the silver undercoat)?
