Anyone build the MK Falke in 1/20th scale?

I won one of these in my IPMS club's annual auction for $45. It's a big flying thing. Has someone built one? Any words of wisdom regarding fit, construction, etc.? I haven't seen one built before and have always wanted one when I see them on eBay, just didn't want to pay $100 for it so I think I got a good deal.

Rob

Head over to maschinenkrueger.com and check out the forums. This is totally dedicated to the Ma.K. universe. And they love the Falke there.

Thank you for the information. It is such an expensive model kit, I would like to get the most out of it.

Rob,

I started puting mine together and noticed that the fit of the body parts is not "shake and bake"; that is you have to test fit and make adjustments to pretty much all the pieces to get the best fit.  In particular, I had to trim and sand the front boom inner detail inserts to get them to set in place evenly all around.  The bulge on the upper left boom sat a little low on the lower edge, but I didn't notice it until the glue set.  To aovid this, I recommend addding it after the upper and lower fuselage halves are joined.  That way it is easy to check to see that it sets in place evenly all around, and to shim it where needed.

There are a lot of ejector pin marks in exposed areas.  Filling them before asembly is much easier than after, particularly at the area in front of the cockpit.  Experience speaking here!

The locating recess for the air scoop on the left side behind the cockpit is larger than necessary due to limitations in the molding process.  I noticed the gaps only after the glue had set.  Some sheet plastic shims set in place and sanded flush prior to the scoop being added will take care of this.

And finally, my cockpit tub interfered with the fit of the upper and lower body halves.  I cut off the forward locating pins and sockets, and this allowed the body to close up without excessive clamping.

I know it sounds like I am whining but don't get me wrong - it's great to have a plastic kit of the Falke, and if you exercise good modeling practices, the results will be excellent.

Here's my build of it: http://www.commiesmodeling.com/gallery3/index.php/rkylwell/makm/falke2

The Ma.K forums have a lot more builds. It goes together pretty easy, my one complaint was the looong seam on the outside of the booms. Keeps popping on me so I'd suggest some internal reinforcement.
