Posted by microman on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 11:25 AM

Hi all,

Here is a buildup of a  1/20 scale "Gustav."

The kit is actually the Wave Melusine kit,but all the parts to make the Gustav are also in the kit.I got the instructions needed of the Ma.k Forum.Hope you like it and thanks for looking.

More to come soon.

Cheers,

Microman.

Very cool!  I'll be following this with interest.

I take it there is a clear shield/"canopy" for the "cockpit" area of the suit?

Hi all,
Thanks for the comments.

Yes there is a smoke colored canopy to be installed.

Got a little more done on this guy this evening.A little touch of filler is needed in a couple of spots, then will prime and paint the interior. The top of the body is just layed in position in the pics and will be glued on once the interior is done.Any suggestions for an interior color would be welcome. Wink
Thanks for looking.

Ma.K is short for"Maschinen Krieger" which is German for Machine Warrior. These models are based on designs by Kow Yokoyama a Japanese industrial designer. His works were used in  pictorial graphic stories in a series of magazines in the early eighties. For more info go to this forum. To see the whole site you have to register but its free.

I went with a pale green for the interior walls with some mild chipping with dark brown and hull red for the back rest with some shading with burnt umber oil paint.
Did some more assembly and corrected the one joint in the gun arm that I installed backwards. Angry then I stuffed the cockpit with foam rubber to mask it and primered the exterior. The pilots head is from the Melusine and torso from the Gustav. Thanks for looking.

wow, looks progress good and clean. Now I'm watching the scratch built bricks. Are these for the wall in the diorama vignette?

Really looking swell. Was that red LEDs or just a red laser pointed at it's back for photo effect?

Base with a small amount of vegetation added

In these next pictures I have sculpted the joint covers and have started the painting process.

This is after the first coat of a dark mahogany color

These two pictures show the next colors to be added in thin coats,

First the dark brownish green.

Then the desert yellow as the final color coat.

Great progress, and interesting work with the colors.  Did you brush-paint it, then?  Will you eventually hit it with a matte lacquer of some kind, or leave the small level of gloss?  I can see doing either, to rerpesent different kinds of material used to make the armor.

Your homemade bricks really look fantastic, too, that was such a great idea!

Best regards,

Brad

Thanks Brad.

Yes it's brush painted with Tamiya acrylics thinned with Lacquer thinner. The finish will be slightly shiny.Yeah those bricks worked out very well as when you break them they have a scale roughness to the grain of the brick.

Here is another update with the I.D. bands and some of the decals done. Thanks for looking.
