Airfix speeder bike question
Posted by Bish on Sunday, November 6, 2011 7:37 AM

I ahve just won an Aifix Sppeder bike on E-bay and was woundering if this is tha same kit as the AMT one. I built the AMT kit years ago, and it still sits proudly on display. But i just wanted to re do it as i know i can do a much better job now. I have been looking for the AMT kit, but saw the Airfix one, and from the photo of the contents, it looks the same as the AMT kit. So, does anyone know if they are the same kits. And if they are different, are they the same size.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Bish!

It´s same kit. That kit is packed several times under different brands. And also with different kind of stands. In most cases it´s with that transparent/smoke "pole" but atleast AMT released it with round plexiglass from what the bike comes through. For me that looks more like it brakes the sound barrier...

As Trabi said, it is the same kit. If memory serves me well, Vader's Tie also came with the plexiglass disc.

Thanks guys. The AMT kit i have didn't come with that disk, i believe that did it as a seperate kit. It did how ever come with a very fragile stand that has broken several times. I also have the darth vader TIE kit, and that doesn't have a disk either.

Airfix reboxed many, if not all, of the original Star Wars/TESB/ROTJ kits done by MPC (original manufacturer). AMT/Ertl original Star Wars kits included models like the Death Star, ProShop X-Wing, TIE fighter 2-pack, Virago, the vinyl figure kits and the Episode 1-3 kits.

Kits reissued by AMT/Ertl with a plexiglass "in flight" display base included Vader's TIE, Luke's X-Wing and the Speeder Bike.

Thanks alot for your help guys. The kit turned up yesterday, its yep, its just the same as the AMT kit. Won't be building it for a while, but when i do i plan on improving it as much as i can. have seen some nice one of these built up, often with the pose of the figure altered, and i plan on trying that. Now i am woundering if i should try and get hold of another Darth vadar TIE and re do that as well.

I never fancied those kits with the disk, i just thought they looked a bit silly.
