Aircraft kits from Microsoft's "Crimson Skies" PC Game available anywhere?
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, February 2, 2004 7:11 PM
Question [?]Has anyone ever produced a kit for any of the strange propeller aircraft shown in Microsoft's computer game "Crimson Skies"?

These were interesting "mercenary" and "pirate" A/C that never really existed (except in the game), but appeared as remotely similar to the comic book illustrations from the years between WWI & II.

Any info or photos of scratchbuilds?

azrog,
No kits yet but there is(were) a set of metal wargame planes out from the game measuring about 1-2 inches long. There is also a set coming out from Wizkids that are prepainted gaming pieces both planes and pilots.

My personal favorite is the F6II Brigand. Looks kind of like an A-10 with a big radial engine up front and a B-24 turret in the tail. Looks like it would be fun to scratch build out of a couple of other kits.

Cool [8D]philp:

Thanks for the link. Your suggestion about scratchbuilding or kitbashing sould like the way to go. If I ever get enough time I'll attempt it and post the results.

I too have thought of trying this in 1/72. Would look cool next to the X-wing.

I've never played the game, only admired the aircraft designs. Some of them could be kitbashed from conventional aircraft kits. A few were made to resemble other "paper" aircraft designs. The Curtiss-Wright P2 Warhawk is closely patterned after a Blohm and Voss attack aircraft:

The FB14 Vampire is, in my view, more evocative of the A-10, what with the twin pusher props:

My personal fave is this one:

It's got several of my favorite elements: biplane wing arrangement, pusher prop, big cannon armament.
