1000 scale Romulan bird of prey. jan 2012

I had this kit for about a year.  It is built out of the box, as is.  I bought a can of green spray paint, but it was a can of really gaudy metallic green.  It was so green that I almost wretched!!!!!   I then really lightly painted it od green, which let some of the metallic green  show through.  then I sealed it and let it sit for about a month.  Then I drilled out all the windows out, and slopped yellow paint all over them.  I then wiped the paint off.  What stayed in the window spaces,  ended up being the windows.  Then another 2 coats of sealer, and another month on the waiting to be decaled shelf.  now for the decals.  I cut them as close to the graphics as I could.  then I used the standard method of installation. .  Then another coat of sealer, and another month on the shelf.  I haven't figured out how to display it,  since the major art work was on the bottom.   Enjoy and please respond with comments.

Great idea on the windows! I assume this kit is a solid hunk of plastic? Drilling out a small depression like that and painting it looks really good.

Only question here is did you paint her green for a reason? The old original series BoPs were a silver/alumium colour. The blood green Romulan warships didn't show up till the Next Generation. Though since they did show green ships in Enterprise I don't see any reason you can't assume some of them were always green.

As to the bottom you could always take a piece of clothes hanger wire and a wooden base to make a stand and then bend it up so the ship's underside shows.

well I really don't follow the rules.

I did like the way the new style war birds were painted, so I went for it.

What I decided for the stand was to get a plaque (done) get a wire hanger(check)  drill in the side of plaque, 1/2 between face and back.  take the hanger and cut 2 straight pieces about 5 inches. bend to desired shape.  then drill into the blank ends of the engines.  slide the model on the hangers and never touch again

Sounds like a plan to me, though I'd be tempted to take her off the stand sometimes and hide her in a drawer so the empty stand can represent her 'cloaked'...

And hey your model- if you think she looks better green- more power to you! Again, really nice looking model. Yes

I love that color.  It gives it a an "alien steampunk" look that I really like.  Nicely done!
