Lucky you. I love the look of this kit--this design has kinda been mirrored in canon, appearing as a split wing Z-95 in the Rogue Squadron comics.

Very nice kit.. Hope I have a chance to get one before the legal BS starts up ( Lucas is infamous for such things ).

On the down side, it was just announced that McQuarrie passed away yesterday.  A great concept artist whose work should always be remembered.

Cool Kit.

Saw the design in comics prior to Star Wars release.

I wish that guy luck in selling the kit..

Hopefully, he doesn't need to pay royalties.

He may not be selling long before lawyers get involved.

Some years ago a friend witnessed someone confiscating resin garage kits from dealer tables at a Sci-Fi show- all while loudly announcing anyone interfering would be arrested.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing the complete, painted kit.

Looks great so far!

Thanks for posting the photos.

Nice, it reminds me of the fuselage of a Japanese Zero backwards with the tail planes removed.

For a quick background, which would assist in making the details of the kit stand out, try using a piece of blue poster board (available at Walmart for a buck or two) or just use a pillow case of a lighter color (white or light blue) without any designs.

I use a poster board I acquired from one of my kids after they used it for a school project. One side was dark blue, the other light blue. I just prop it up against the edge of a dining room chair as it is pushed up to the table. Place the kit on the board as it curves in a semi 90 degree angle. I often use a book or something to hold it in place for the minute or two it takes to snap a picture.

Geof

Way cool, is it a sort of one off, or are there more available? How much was it?

I saw he's got a couple on there now. Just search "concept x wing" It was under $60 w/ shipping. I first saw this kit a couple months ago. It was thea only kit of it I had ever seen, I was going to bid on it but the bid went high and I balked. Now more kits are on there so I just BINed it and said screw it I want it!

Star Wars Ralph McQuarrie 1:72 Conceptual X-wing resin kit

Someone once told me regarding modeling: discover resin and all your dreams will come true

I'm realizing he was right!

Found this on Ebay, being sold by a bloke in NYC, its a resin 1/72 scale kit based on Ralph McQuarrie's original concept paintings for Star Wars, got it put together, still need painting, and wow its a great looking model. This is a kit I have been looking for since 1977.

Dont mind the backdrop, just used what was handy.

I have been hesitant to try resin kits, I have make a few Herb Deeks resin kits, but they were relatively easy kits, this was a bit more complicated requiring some drilling, puttying, and such, but it went together far better than I expected. I have heard real horror stories regarding resin kits, luckily this one wasnt one of them.

I actually had to make a choice buying this, it was either this or a resin Space 1999 Hawk  (another one of those 'must have') kit that was up at the same time, but I decided this was far more unique and desirable to me.

Glad I did.Big Smile
