Hi, a really good job with that Tie FM build, as people have said WIP builds are rare yo come by on these. I have built the older MPC kit in the past and this FM is a brilliant improvement on that kit. But then again, the MPC has it's accuracy issues, and needs a few mods here and there but it's still not a terrible kit though, I have two to build and one on the way for a Royal Guard custom project.

Could anybody recommend a colour for this Tie kit? Or any other Interceptor? not really interested in mixing a colour, just want to use one paint for it.

Thanks Klik :)

I kinda feel relieved knowing that it wasn't only me... On other forum some guys which built regular Tie were rather shocked with the issues, since they did not experience any...

I'll try to find some time to upload my other SF builds here.

Absolutely beautiful job! I have also build this kit, and I found the same issues (I think they come from the design of the solar panels, personally), but you seemed to have solved them perfectly.

Please, keep up the great work.

Darth_Vapor

Really nice!

Do you recall the proportions of the light gray to white to get that shade of gray on the hull?

Thanks man :) If I remember correctly, it was about 2.5-3 : 1 White : Grey. I rarely do exact measuring with paint, usually I mix them by eye ;)

I hope it helps a bit...

Cheers Beer

Nice job! Last thing that I built that was star wars related was my legos. I have the collectors edition tie interceptor in my shelf still.

Great job!!! I build the old MPC kit years and years ago.

Fantastic work all around on the model but I love what you did with the solar panels. Cool

Fitting and sanding required?

I'm shocked!

I had no problems whatsoever on the two standard FM TIEs I built a few yaears ago.

Great job on this one.

Ye, i am as well. I didn't have any of that with the TIE In. Maybe you got a bad one off.

I was shocked too, since I was hearing only good opinions about Fine Molds' kits...

Glad to hear you like it :)

Thank you guys Cool This kit builds up quite nicely, with few minor problems.

When you cut parts off sprue, it tends to crack a bit. Decals in mine were just horrible - thick like a cardboard,  they didn't want to stick to model, they crack when trying to move them. I ended up placing them on drop of future klear.

Solar panels don't fit exactly - fitting and sanding required.

Overall, nice kit, much better than the old one from MPC.

Lovely build, thanks for the WiP pics. I loved building this kit myself, these FM kits have some great detail.

1/72 TIE Interceptor - Fine Molds

I was not able to show the work on this model here from the beginning, because I was building Tie Interceptor during online competition on Galaxy Kits forum.
Since the competition is over there, I can show now the whole build and completed model .

In-box

First I assembled the stand

Fuselage interior painted Neutral Grey (XF-53)

Next I worked on cockpit. Assembled, it received first base color Neutral Grey (XF-53), followed by Badab Black wash (Citadel) and Astronomican Grey highlights (Citadel). After paints dried I finished it with Satin Varnish (Vallejo).

Side panels.

Pilot - painted black with few shades of grey.

Next, pilot found his spot and cockpit got completed.

Visible from outside front panel was painted German Grey (XF-63), with Badab Black wash (Citadel) and drybrushed RLM 84 (Vallejo Model Air)

Solar panels were removed from sprues and cleaned. first they received 2 coats of Alclad II Gloss Black Base, followed by the next day with 2 coats of Alclad II Prismatic Sapphire. Pictures are not fully showing the effect, but the panels' color is changing depending on the angle and light.

Clear parts after bath in Future and masking.

Interceptor's fuselage completed and sprayed Grey Primer Vallejo.

Wings' frames assembled and primed as well.

Having all that done, it was time for some painting. Since none of grey paints in my stash was looking right, by trial & error I came up with color which suits me.
I used Flat White (XF-2) and Light Grey (XF-66).

I saved some more of this paint in the jar marked TIE Grey. Fuselage received TIE Grey coat, window frame & sensors were painted Neutral Grey (XF-53).

Original stand / base looked kinda empty and boring, so I added few elements from my spares bin...

Tie after Tie Grey and Black wash. Some may say it's too strong, but I wanted to achieve really worn appearance.

Little bit of fitting and sanding, and solar panels were mounted.

Finished fuselage

It was time to put all the elements together

The last missing thing was the base. I decide to restrain myself to only 2 colors Black (Tamiya X-1) and Boltgun Metal (Citadel).

Completed TIE INTERCEPTOR.
