Predator 1/6 vinyl kit SFX movie models
Posted by ice_spy on Thursday, July 12, 2012 4:05 AM

After many years of painting and putting away, i finally got him finished today. FSM members have given me the boost i needed to get it done. I was dreading those fish nets, these tok hours today to get done. Assembly was easy with no problems, however the resin knife blades were too brittle so i scratch built my own blades out of some plastic card. So i know these are not exact, but close enough for me. His mask can be placed on his head, once you pop out the mouth, the kit also came with a closed mouth option.

This kit was purchased in Thailand, Bangkok, MBK shopping centre many years ago.

I will never attempt to paint another Predator ever again !

Lmao, thanks John.

Dr shrinker, I thought i was happy with it until last night i was looking at 1/6 Predator figures on google pics.  I knew this model would be hard, but my colours are so off. His face / mouth / top of skull is so different. He should have more skin colour around the mouth and different pattern on top his head. He also has this more skin colour on his body. Dam i dont want ot do those fish nets again ! Maybe in the future i will touch up the colours. I was very happy with the way the armour turned out, but the strap on his chest should be leather, and probly his thong straps should be too. His gloves i think are meant to be black not leather colour... i could sit here picking it to death after seeing google pics.

I would have to say, this is one of the hardest models ive had to paint, because of colour blend and match.

I think i should of just bought a pre- painted non model display if i wanted the Predator. I know people collect 1/6 figure dolls,  my fav Major Dutch (arnie) they want approx $550 and up !! WOW.

PREDATOR is my favorite movie off all time. I thought it was so advanced for its time, and you could watch it today and its still a great movie. Also the military methods and weapons are almost to the book, i guess thats why the movie doesnt age much.

Nice job. I've been wanting to do a predator myself, but am daunted by the painting. Don't be to discouraged by the google pics. I'm sure ther were many color variations on the home planet. One never really knowsWink.

thank you for all the comments. I pulled out the open mouth and placed his helmet on. I think it looks much better now. Also i can now put the hoses from his helmet to the lazer on his shoulder as in the SFX pic. I think this will add the extra detail he seems to be lacking. I will paint his chest strap leather colour too to brake up all the silver armour. Should have it done after work this arvo and post up a new pic or two.

thanks td4438. didnt get around to finishing the predator off ova the weekend but i will get back into it and do the above mentioned soon. I used a mix of tamiya acriylic paints the armour i painted chrome silver then a heavy black wash. then silver again then another lighter mix of black wash then i dry brushed silver once more.

Well i think im finaly finished now with the Predator.  Put his helmet / mask on , hoses and painted the chest strap brown leather colour. Also cut and drilled out the resin teeth and placed them on some string to make his necklace. I painted his laser sight on the helmet red and some of the pattern buttons on his right arm cpu. Over all i am very happy with this model, it has tested my painting skills and now i  would like to buid and paint more vinyl kits, maybe a terminator 1:1 head, robocop , freddy and jason , ash from evil dead with his arm chainsaw and so on....  My wife likes the japan sexy girl figures so one of them could be on the way too. lol. I have just purchased a Vietnam hue 1968 radio operator 1/10 scale bust model, so this will be the next figure for me to finish first.

And the last pic.... Alien Vs Predator  Wink

Pred came out great, the only nitpick i can see is i'd have preferred his shoulder gun to be active (standing proud), so it doesn't look like part of his armour. The skin looks great and armor is nicely weathered.

Thanks for your reply and advice. I agree enhancing the laser via prone position would of looked better. Im not sure if i got all his leads / wires in the correct position or enough of them. But that will suffice for me. I do look at him on my shelf now and think wow! i painted that !
