Resin Neuspotters on eBay, any good?
Posted by CarnivourousDonut on Friday, August 3, 2012 12:27 PM

I know the original SF3D kits go for stupid money, and I know these "new" (well, new to me) resin kits are from China, meaning knockoffs, the pricetags are much more reasonable.

Question is, are they any good? Heck, are they even acceptable, or should I save my money and buy an original Neuspotter?

Let's rattle the cage, crack the machine. Let 'em know who you are, shine to be seen.

Normally recasts are not good. They take no care in making sure there are no bubbles in the resin, or to make new molds when the old ones become unusable. Also the detail in the resin are often "soft" or non existent. There's a reason why  they sell a $100 kit for $20...

Plus there's the moral factor of these POS's (IMHO) taking someone else's work, passing it off as their own and selling it to make a profit, many times competing with the original kit..

I would save up and buy a legit one.

Adding to the usual 'morality' (or lack of) involved with recasts is the fact the SF3D/MaK world is a close knit and very devoted community. They idolize the original creator of the genre as well as supporting the various kit manufacturers, past and present who offer goods. There are occassional sanctioned resin kits but those are the exception. If you want to get shunned/spurned by an entire community- just display a built up resin knockoff.
