Cadet Chuck

I ordered a lighting kit for my 1/350 NX-01, for almost $200, and after seeing it was nothing but a collection of resistors, leds, and other components, (worth maybe $50 max at Radio Shack), and no pcbs, with really poor instructions of a complicated installation, returned it for a refund.

That's another reason that I'm waiting a while before attempting the lit version, and building one from-the-box in the meantime.  I'll be familiarized with the kit's interior and be able to plan my own setup, including the parts needed.  From there it'll be a matter of learning about electronics or finding someone  else who knows how to put my ideas into a design that won't blow up.  I know enough about assembling electronics to take it from there.

Lighting up a 1/350 is a really major project, something for experienced modelers and those with electronic experience only. The model looks fine without the lights, and really, how many times would you turn it on and stare at the lights, anyhow?

Definitely getting one of the PL kits whenever they finally release it, but I'll wait until I have some experience with lighting models so that I can make the most of it.

Oh, I don't know. $20 and a little elbow grease will get ya there with the AMT kit. Wish I could post pics of mine but my host site is acting up.

If you want a ship that actually looks like the classic Enterprise, then you want the upcoming Polar Lights kit, not the old AMT or the new Revell AG kits. It's large, but it's about as perfect a representation as you can get.

I have the Revell kit and to be honest its looks like an easy build and its been made to take a lighting kit. I got a lighting kit from a German firm from E-bay for about $50. No drilling or making windows just install it to get a fully lighted Enterprise in a reasonable size

Have built the NX-01 and it's a nice model.  Still have the 1/350 NCC-1701A unopened in the stash and will probably never build it.  Too big, and a PITA to finish.  Don't know why I ever bought the thing, except it was on sale for a good price.

Oh, man, I wish I had the money and the room for that. I still have an original boxing 1/350 Enterprise refit to build.

Ditto I still have the Refit Enterprise and the NX-01 Enterprise to build too.

I just read the review on the new Revell 1/600 (?) scale USS Enterprise.  What an excellent build and model.  BTW, you can get them via Amazon.com.

Second, check this (old) news out.  Polar Lights will be making a 1/350 Enterprise.  Is this true?  If so then why spend almost $70 on the Revell of Germany's Enterprise?
