That sounds very cool Keyworth! Cool [8D]

I have been doing some thinking....( Don't worry...the fire extinguisher is right here! )

How cool it would be to build my Dio as a scene from THE WHITE MOUNTAINS.....cool huh?.....maybe just a tad bigger than HO scale??

The book never really does discibe how the tripods look in good detail anyways....I think?.....

I could always change the top a bit?

I remeber the series well. It was too short! Big Smile [:D] I've ordered two of the kits for a diorama I want to build. I remember seeing a great one in an older issue of FSM with the Victorian style tripods going after a period British warship in the English Channel; a scene directly from the H.G. Wells novel. I'm looking for other kit variations as well. Love those Martians! Wink [;)]

No problemo! Cool [8D]

The Folks in the Swiss Mountains are free cuz the Tripods can't go there....FYI.
So they send down recuiters disguised as 'vagrants' ( folk whos 'cappings' did not work well ) so they turn out a bit slow Clown [:o)]Tongue [:P]......they move around from village to village do odd jobs for food and sleep and move on....children are warned not to talk to them much and to stay away.

OK......about the film 'Day of the tripod' or the TRIPODS?

I did not do a Amazon or Google search but on ebay there are what seems to be a few and judging by the art work I think it has been re released....some from UK and some from the U.S. sellers.....

and it seems that there has been more filmed like books two and three???!!!

2. The City of gold and lead
3. The pool of fire

The story takes place in England in the future after these nasty bad guy Aliens took over the planet and the humans left live under thier control by placing a 'cap' on every person on thier 18th birthday.....they live simple lives .....much like the american western time period .....and the most 'fancy' or machinical thing a home or person might own would be a wind up pocket watch. the Aliens can not breath our air and they walk around in these tripod like things.

There are ruins and older crumbled cities but are considered off limits, dangerious and left over from the 'ancients'

anyway.....there are some men who are NOT capped and they live in the swiss mountains hence 'The White Mountains'

anymore and I would give away too much......very good reading.....the Author does not go on for ever describing things like some do....very imaginitive!

Thats it!

and YUP! I would like to see that kit built !

All of this reminds me of the TRIPODS or the film 'Day of the TRIPODS' from the book 'The White Mountains' by John Christopher......I highly recomend it! there are three books in all.....very cool!

The 'Day of the tripod' was a UK BBC TV movie done pretty well too.....very hard to get.....a Pal of mine found one on ebay.

Now I have heard of Jeff Wayne's record called War Of The Worlds. I also know that there is/was a PC game called Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds for Win 95 because I have it.

On the back of the box it reads, "It's 1898. Escaping from their dying red planet, Martian forces unleash a sinister attack on the United Kingdom convinced that with the fall of the mighty empire, Earth and the blood of her inhabitants will be theirs for the taking!'

I have not ....BUT! I love that Justin Hayward song 'Forever Autumn'

Yup, got the Record a looong time ago, one of my favorites.
If you haven't listened to it to so I think you will enjoy it.

To be honest I think his "Spartacus" is better than "WotW", but nevertheless his "WotW" is a classic.

After reading this thread and looking at the pictures I had to order a tripod and the pink aliens too. That is a great price and they didn't charge me shipping fees. Has anyone heard of the seller before? I suppose I'll have to wait and see if/when the tripod gets to me. I wonder what the pod is made of? Resin? We know the legs are expandable rods of aluminium. Great find, Papa and thanks!

Ah the memories! That waqs the first book I ever read that didn't have pictures!LOL I was in 5th or 6th grade. Been addicted to sci-fi ever since. The pilot should be brown tho. The book said they had dark brown leathery skin i beleive. I might pick this up!
