Welcome to FSM, ilikespagetti (who doesn't?)

I can't give you any links or names, but as I recall several companies offer templates for those complex patterns.
Having said that, I've only seen them for the refit Enterprise.

By the way, what's "alliance?" Not familiar with them. A model manufacturer, or a distributor?

I'm thinking it's one of those expensive resine garage kit makers. Those resin Trek kits can get serious high dollar! There is one out in a large scale that is around $900 to $1000 I beleive.

Alliance is a manufacturer you can find their kits at www.federationmodels.com, i dont think that the kits they make could be any more detailed

One funny thing I noticed...seems like a lot of the AMT/ERTL stuff they're selling for $90 or $100 is readily available at Toy Liquidators for $2.99...I know, I know, those are the OLD packagings of ORIGINAL issues and whatnot...but still, it's the same kit!
That cut-out Enterprise ain't all that old, either...I bought one for $4.99 last year.

walker enterprises located in memphis tennessee used to make templates for a variety of ships but i haven't seen much from him lately.micheal walker is the gentleman you'd like to speak with if you can some how research it and find a contact possibly through dave mathys of dlm or jt graphics. you always can go to model citizen sight via starship modeler and get a pretty good look at the basic pattern yourself and then cut the pattern into a thin sheet of evergreen styrene to create a template.you can create 2 maybe 3 different patterns and use them to detail the entire hull.

There were plans to release the "D" templates, but I think this fell by the wayside. You could use Post-it notes to alternates panels. If you can find the ST:TNG Skecthbook there are some nice close up pics of the E in there.

I didn't think the E had the Aztec pattern. First off, it didn't have the regular deflector grid pattern on the saucer that the A through D had to set the basis for the Aztec. I also never noticed it on the pictures of the studio miniature ( yeah, right, the thing's something like 10 feet long! ) that I used for reference.

I had the impression that they used a few different shades of gray for the large sections and slightly off-shade variants with different semigloss finishes for hull plating details.

If I'm wrong someone please tell me. I'd hate to have the lit model I have planned to be ruined bu an inaccurate paint scheme! Dead [xx(]

The E does have an aztec pattern, albeit more subtle than the D. There are some nice pics of it in the ST Mechanics 4 book as well as a nice 2 page close up of the saucer in the Skecthbook. Not that I would ever attempt it myself.Smile [:)]

there is no set aztec pattern per say as on the a thru d .i'll assume that when you're referring to the aztec pattern you're speaking primarily of the deflector grid pattern.when i refer to the aztrec pattrern i 'm referring to the entire panelling scheme found on the hull.the e does not have a deflector grid pattern but it definitely has a distinct panneling scheme.in first contact you can get a pretty good look at the pattern if you watch picard and warf walk on the hull.you'll see panel shapes on the hull.those panel shapes appear all over the ship.by alternating color and positioning you can achieve a pretty good recreation of that scheme.there are several very good reference pictures if you have time for researching.one which i believe i found thru starship modeler via the model citizen is a very clear picture in daylight versus filming light of the filming model.

"Toy Liquidators" is Kay Be Toys clearance outlet store, it isn't a site. Problem is the stores are not located in all cities. The nearest one to me is about a 40 min drive away.
