SFM:uk online competition
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 15, 2004 3:43 AM
SFM:Uk just announced their 2004 competition. Here are some of the details.

Nice prizes, healthy build time. Looks like a good one!

-------------------------------------------------------------

The British are Coming
===============

Each entry must in some way show a British element of sci-fi and fantasy. For example, you could enter an item which is taken directly from a British movie or TV series such as a Dalek from Dr Who, Fireflash frmom Thunderbirds or Starbug from Red Dwarf. Alternatively something taken from a novel by a British author such as H G Wells' Time Machine. Finally, you can tailor your entry to the theme by apply a British theme to a non-British subject, for instance a Gundam or Starfury with a Union Flag paint scheme.

Things that would not eligible are items from series or movies with an extremely tenuous connection to Britain or items where a backstory has been added to try and explain away a connection, such as a British captain on the USS Enterprise.

If you are in any doubt as to whether your idea would fall within the remit of the competition please contact the SFM:uk Admin before making your entry.

Here are details:

The competition is open to everyone and you do not need to be a UK resident to enter.

Entry of any type of model (eg. figure, starship, vehicle, prop, etc) is allowed as long as it fall within the remit described above.

Any level of detail, kitbashing, scratchbuilding and presentation (eg dioramas) is permitted.

All entries must be submited by e-mail no later than 12:01am BST on Monday 19th July 2004. This gives a full 5 months of build time.

Each entry must include your name, your postal address and a valid e-mail address.
A description of the model should be included in the event of multiple classes being created, ie. is it stock, scratchbuilt, aftermarket parts used. In addition you may include further details of the history, background or otherwise of the subject.

A maximum of 5 pictures may be submitted with each entry. Pictures should not be digitally altered but should represent the model as photographed.

Pictures should be no more than 640 pixels wide or tall and at 72 ppi.
There is no limit to the number of entries each person can make.

Each entry should be accompanied by a £2.50 entry fee. This is payable either by PayPal or if you don't have a PayPal account please contact me for how to pay by cheque. Non-UK residents must pay by PayPal or a cheque drawn on a UK bank account. This is to offset the costs of running the site and to pay for administration of the competition (postage of prizes etc).

If you choose an entry from a very obscure subject please provide some verification of the British connection.

Judging will be by a voting system which will be open once the closing date is reached.
Depending on the number and type of entries received classes will be assigned nearer to the closing date.

The following prizes have been extremely generously donated for the competition and SFM:uk is extremely grateful to these people.
