Thanks.  I always go more subtle with my weathering.  It's one of those cases where in person it looks a lot like what you see in the movies, but the more subtle variations don't show well under photography lights.

Ohhhhhhhhh beautiful work! And that's coming from a Trek fan so I don't complement the Wars stuff very often!!!  

I love the more pristine look you went for here, so many people like to really weather the heck out of rebel ships, which I can understand but I like them sleek and polished more! 

Yeah, there were maybe 8 or 10 filming miniatures, both hero for close-up work, and pyro to make go "boom!", and when you look at still images of them, you can see the differences in the markings, but in the film footage it's hard to tell unless you know what to look for and like to press PAUSE a lot.

that's funny, I've seen that movie a hundred times and I had no idea that they didn't all look the same as Red-5.  I always thought that the different liveries on the various toys were just invented by the toy companies.  The force is evidently not strong with me.

I went with Red 4 simply because of the colors.  I have a thing for mustard yellow for some reason.  I will do other schemes in the 1/72 scale kits I have to build (thinking Red 2 and Blue 1), but when I get around to building the studio scale resin X-Wing I have, I may very well do Red 4 again, but be sure to go darker on the yellow and weather her up a bit more.

The droid head is an R4.  I got it from a long out of production resin droid set.  Technically the head is supposed to be round at the shoulders and then go to a square at the top, but I didn't want to muck around shaping it and screw it up!

It looks like an R4-series astromech to me.

Well done! What about Red 4's markings attracted you? It couldn't have been pilot John D.'s very short career, could it? Or is this post-Battle of Yavin, because I think Hobbie takes over as Red 4 as of Hoth, doesn't he (obviously a different ship)?
