Battlestar Cerberus Kit Bash
Posted by Warmuncher on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 8:00 PM

Hi all,

Its been some time since I've posted anything to these forums. I haven't had anything cool to show off until recently.

Early last year Moebius announced the Battlestar Pegasus 1:4105 kit.  Of course I got all giddy with excitement.  And of course I was disappointed that the kit kept being pushed back.  It got me wondering if Moebius was going to do the original Galactica.  Then I remember that I had an old 1997 Revell-Monogram re-issue of the original Galactica sitting in a storage box in my basement.  The model was just as poor as I remembered.  So I decided to spruce her up a bit with parts from pretty much everything I could find.  This is what I came up with.  The Battlestar Cerberus

Fantastic job on that.  Really love what you've done with the colors and weathering.  Only washes and drybrusthing, or did you use pastels as well?  Kudos!

Believe it or not the weather was done with a single wash and then dry brushed to unify all the colors.  My goal was a high contrast finish.  The engines are also dry brushed the shade of the engine lights.  When the lights are off the colors are still present.

Thank you.  I have higher res photos where you can actually see the gun emplacements.  They pretty much vanished when I converted these photos to low res.

Were you looking for tips on the kit or on the photography?

I am writing a series of articles covering the build process over on Southern Maine Scale Modelers.  It is not a step by step tutorial however there will be plenty of photos so you can see what I did.  If you are interested head on over to their site.  It is a new site that I'm helping to populate with content.  I'm sure they would love the extra traffic.

Ah, gotcha.  The place I started was with three articles posted on CamospecsOnline.  Sounguru put together a great article that covers backdrops, lighting, and camera settings.  It is an excellent starting place for anyone who wants to take better photos of their projects.

Part one may not seem relevant but it is short and still worth the read.  Parts two and three are accessible at the end of each article.
