have two Tamiya spray can options:
Semi Gloss Black TS-29
Metallic Black TS-40
what do you think would work best for 'ol Robby?
which you prefer? it's your model. Given it was made back in the 1950s, semi or full gloss black, not metallic, i guess would be more correct, however metallic black would be 'cooler'.
My Photo Album
Metalic Black in a spray can is likely to be black with glitter ... a bad idea.
I'd recommend you go out and buy Gunmetal color. That's what I used on mine. Aluminum accents

Sorry, can't the link to work. Anyway, it showed a photo of a very nice Polar Lights model of Robby in black chrome plating. I haven't seen another like it for 10 years.

I have a picture of him. He's at the opening of the Icons Of Science Fiction, In the Sci Fi Museum part of the Experience Music Project in Seattle, Washington.

"Information about Robby can be found on the Internet. Just use any search engine-- in advanced mode-- and type in the phrase "Robby the Robot". You'll be amazed at what you find-- it's fascinating stuff."
He looks very gloss black in some shots, and seems to vary to a shade of dark metallic in other shots.
Have you seen the YouTube video interviewing the owner of the original version?
.
f8sader. Sorry I didnt replay till now. I don't really now how tall the actor was that wore Robby during the filming of Fordiben Planet. But this Robby was a little taller than me at 6' 1'.
I found a lot of great pictures just doing a internet search.
Hope this helps.
Patton, I just finished a Robby for the Villians and Heroes GB on this site. I described how I primed and finished him using Tamiya Gun Metal with a red primer that gave him a subtly dark violet tint. I've seen the movie more times that I can count I think my Robby came out nice. Take a look, I would love the feedback and all the best for you and Robby's legacy.
Patton, I just looked to save you time. The finished Robby is on the front page and my thread starts on page 15. This is a current GB.
