Remember, there's two ways to look at the accuracy of the colors.  There is the original model colors and there's the way it looks on screen.  99% of the time modelers are looking to replicate what they remember seeing on screen.

What I mean is that a movie model might be painted plain white.  But after the put it in front of a blue screen and shine various lights on it takes on a different look, maybe slightly grey or brown with all kinds of shadows.  Couple that with the fact that it looks slightly more characteristic when its on 70mm film.

Based on that picture of the Reliant above I would use white LEDs with a drop of clear yellow over them.  Yellow LEDs would be too yellow I think.

TD4438

The larger lights across the top of the stern appear to be yellow. The small lights around the bay entrances are white.

Good point.  It always seemed to me that the more yellowish look of the running lights was because of the use of incandescents while the more bluish-toned lighting around the bays and from the windows was because of the fluorescent tubing used to light the interior of the studio model.

Look for a larger version of the above image and you'll see what I mean.

If you mean the running lights surrounding the bays, all running lights as of the movie era were white.  If you're referring to the ones lighting the bay doors, they were also white and the doors were light blue.

The only place where red lights may be accurate is if you're lighting up the impulse engines.
