It happens in the SF section. I had one thread I started asking for help and after the initial few suggestions there was nothing. Then, over 5 years later, someone found the thread out of nowhere and had a new suggestion.
As to your issue with the white glue, I rarely use the stuff, and have never used it with decals despite all the times it has been recommended. Decals can be tricky enough, and adding another risk of something that may have a bad reaction with the lacquer always made me skip the oft-suggested white glue idea. I've also had problems with the glue from the decal sheet causing discoloration under the topcoat that shows up after a couple of years.
What I usually did was just wrangle the decals into place, flatten them out with a Q-tip and setting solution/solvent, and let the lacquer seal them in. It may not be the best or the most commonly-used, but I haven't had much trouble with this approach, letting the solvent/setting solution make up for the lack of adhesive by basically melting the decals into place. I know that can be tricky with some decals like those in the PL 1/1000 kits because they're pretty fragile, so I now also add the step of strengthening such thin decals or older ones ( like the ones from the 1997 release of the BSG Viper that shattered on me ) with liquid decal film.
