Received my Salzo 1/2 studio scale Battlestar Galactica kit yesterday. This is one huge kit. Almost 16 pounds of resin goodness. It will be a few weeks before I start the build. I need to stock up on a lot of supplies for this beast first. There's going to be a lot of pre-planning on how this is going to be lit and mounted. For now, enjoy these few pictures I snapped last night.

Wow Cool!
I'm interested in what you come up with in the lighting department. Ever program a microcontroller?
omg, you are quite, quite mad!!

Nice! Looking forward to seeing this in progress. Looks like some nice detail.
Thanks guys. I also look forward to diving into this kit. I need to restock supplies before I start though. Lighting should not be too difficult. I'll be using .5mm fiber optic for a few hundred windows. Main engines will be blue LEDs with the center impulse being red. Unlike most Trek ships, this has no blinking, strobing, or spinning lights! I may add a few blinkies just to make mine different though.
If that thing doesn't shoot tiny little Vipers out the side when you are done I will be very disappointed!
It looks like a fun build. I think the TOS is better looking than the reboot Galactica.

Thanks Gerry. And yes, it will have tiny Vipers. Fourteen of them to be exact. There are some upgrades available, including resin cast in scale Vipers!
Ohhhhhhhhh, sorry about the drool!
MUST NOT BUY, even though she'd look perfect with my 1/350th Enterprises...

No need for a microcontroller then!
What does the kit have inside the landing bays?
Pretty basic lighting needs for this kit, thank goodness!
The landing bays are just hollow. An interior would need to be scratched or Randy Cooper makes a resin upgrade kit for this that includes an interior, decals and super tiny Vipers to park in there. I will probably get his decals and Vipers and scratch the rest.
Spent the last two nights cleaning up the bag of tiny detail parts. Here a few pics of more of the bigger parts laid out.
Wow! This thing is awesome! Is she totally hollow to make lighting easier? Also, do the flight pods open up so you can add your own interior and tiny vipers?
Finally, where did you get that poster over your desk? I could probably afford one of those.

Whoa! I'll be checkin this out
I like looking at and trying to identify all the kit parts used to make all the details from your larger pictures

Thanks guys. Yes, the model is completely hollow, except for the hanger bay rear caps. Those need to be hollowed out. The main hangers are open inside. Randy Cooper makes a detailed hanger bay kit for this, including tiny Vipers!
The poster was in the premiere issue of Geek magazine last year. It's of one persons collection of models that were photoshopped to be in scale with each other. It lists their names and respective lengths.
There are a lot of kit parts used on this! Tank tracks, drop tanks, turrets, road wheels, jerry cans, car parts, etc. The detail is amazing!
Regarding the whole "shooting out tiny Vipers" thing...
If he did that, it would be recalled as a choking hazard.
Have done quite a bit over the last week. This thing is getting big!
Wow, I need to update this thread! So, a lot has been done on this. One part that was a little disappointing was the bridge. It was basic and under detailed. To correct that, I wanted a new bridge. With the help of a member on another forum, I have this to present, a 3D rendered replacement bridge.

If anyone else is building this beautiful kit and wants to replace their bridge, it has been uploaded to Shapeways.

WOW Indeed!
I'll be watching...
Awesome looking forward to the build!
Check out Brad Hair Productions; he built a studio scale version. Hangin in the Hobbytown in Tulsa,OK.
I'm friends with Brad Hair on FB, I'm well aware of his awesome ship! I just received the new 3D printed nose for the Galactica. Two more parts are in the mail and then I will be back on this kit with a vengeance! Here is the new 3D printed nose.
