Star Wars scale models
Posted by hellwarrior on Thursday, March 20, 2014 12:54 PM

Hi, I would like to buy a few Star Wars scale models.  I'm particularly interested about building a star destroyer and an At-At but every Star Wars models would interest me.

Do you know of any good kits that you suggest and do you have any photos of the products?

Thanks for your help!

Some of the best Star Wars kits are the Fine Molds ones. They are a bit pricey, but excellent kits. AMT/MPC did both an AT-AT and Star Destroyer as well as many other subjects, which can still be found on e-bay I believe.

I have found this site an excellent source, he has review sof the Star Wars kits he has built.

I built the AT-AT years ago, unfortunately I don't have it any more. It was a nice kit and comes with tiny snow speeder's.

Revel has a pretty nice line of models, including some from the Clone Wars cartoon. A lot if not all of them are snap fit and prepainted, however that does not mean you can't put your own touch to it. It's what I did with the falcon I built.

Thanks guys for your help.  I think I will go with the Fine Molds kits.  I am searching something more detailed than Snap-Tite kit.

I forgot to tell I'm mostly interested in building an At-At kit.  Anyone knows of a good one?

I think your only real choice is the MPC Ertl kit. To be honest I wouldn't mind another one myself, but I have had no joy finding one yet.

I wish I could. It was about 20 years ago when I built it, and I don't have it any more, it got destroyed with most of my other built kits. The kit does come with 2 snow speeders and two Rebel gun turrets.

This was the last AT-AT kit released that I know of.It's a fairly good size and should be worth hunting around for.

The Fine Molds 1:48 X-Wing is a fantastic kit! I might get a second one, some day. The 1:72 Falcon is in its own leage, apparently, and even the 1:144 one seems to be great. Too bad they're so pricey. And too bad Revell "dumbs down" their kits (due to licensing?)

I have most of the Revell snap tite Star Wars kits, do not sell them short. They are of superb quality and detail. The smaller fighters like the TIE and Jedi fighters are extremely nice. The Republic Cruiser (precursor to the Star Destroyer) is a very nice kit.

I wouldn't mind one of those Republic Cruisers, might have to grab one.

As to the AT-AT and that expensive kit, I have just found several on e-bay in the US and UK all at decent prices, the US ones are here if anyone is interested, 2 MPC kits at under $20.

I believe the only ground vehicle I bought for my son was the clone wars chicken walker. He was more interested in the fighters.

Here's a photo of some of the kits. The smaller ones came in little foil bags and were $5, very nice little ships, not even in the same class as the original MPC model kits. They are pre-painted with little rubbery pre-painted figures too.
