Info on old Star Wars Echo Base
Posted by Irish3335 on Sunday, April 6, 2014 12:12 AM

Hi all

looking to start working on my old Star Wars Echo Base diorama, but want to get all my facts straight before I start building.  any idea on the exact scale?  How about after market accessories such as ships or equipment?  Anyone finish one of these suckers and have suggestions?  Thanks for the help!

Hey Irish.  Not sure I've seen the Echo Base dio.  I have the Planet Hoth kit, is that the same?  Could you post pics of the kit?  Sure would like to see it.

I am not sure there is any AM for these sets, but I could be wrong. According to this, its 150 scale, you might find this useful.

I think the Echo Base and Batle of Hoth were two seperate kits. Hoth had the walkers, speeders, rebel guns and the Echo had the Rebel transports, Ion canon, perhaps a few x-wings, IIRC. It's been so long. I had the Battle of Hoth kit way back then.

I had one, still probably have the remnants of it. The whole thing is a mix of scales. The Y-Wings only vaguely resemble them. The transport ship is salvageable. I doubt there is anything for this kit. I picked one up when they were last released back around 1999-2000.

Thanks for the help all, I have the battle for Hoth as well as Echo base - the scale is pretty compatible with 1/144, (since it is 1/150) so I think I will have to do some substitutions. I'm thinking that with new 3D printer technology I may have to find a way to print myself some figures from my collection of Hasbro figures

I remember building a couple of those, forever ago. But once something is glued down forget about trying to move it to another spot.

But it was a great kit. I wish I still had one of them.

I think the Echo Base and Batle of Hoth were two seperate kits.

I know of one by AMT the other was boxed by Airfix (pretty sure they were the same kit).

Here's the kits

Really, the little Galoob Micro Machines are more accurate than the small kits from this set.

I recently dug this little puppy out to refurb it. Some of the ships/equipment I had glued down popped right off and others took a chunk of the plastic base with them. However the holes should be pretty easy to fill and blend in with putty as its supposed to be an uneven snowy surface. I refinished the ships and equipment and pretty much left it at that stage as I haven't decided to go with the included base or make my own.

I also have the Hoth kit and I'm pretty sure the snow speeder ships are larger,
