Each LED requires a current-limiting RESISTOR in series with it, not a capacitor, and yes, extra LEDs will shorten battery life.

Thanks that all makes sense, I'll start the kit in a couple weeks. That helps.

Terry

Looking at it I think the battery and switch are under the top dome so gravity is helping there. I'd be careful with magnets just because it could be an issue getting them to let go without damaging the paint finish.

To light the ramps you will need more LED's and capacitors. It will be easy to splice them in after the switch so you wont need another battery and switch but I've not looked closely to see if they will be an easy fit or not. It will depend on the look your going for and the size of LED you want to use.

At the most basic the lights are fixed to a ring of LED's which is then fixed to the bottom of the saucer. There is a motor which fixes to a clear dome which spins to get the effect., Its not a complicated build there and its all wired together so its easy to make sure it works. If you do add more LED's I'd expect it to just use the battery quicker

Any other questions please let me know

Phil thanks, does the dome come off or should I glue in some magnets to get to the battery and switch? If I chose to add a couple more lights would I need to add additional capacitors? I was thinking about lighting the three ramps.

Much appreciated, Terry

Jibber

Just seen this. I have the C-57D with the LED's and its an easy build. Its all pre-wired for you, just plug a battery in and your going. Not built it yet but cant see it being more than a weekend build.

Let me know if you need any more info

Has anybody built this kit from Polar Lights Deluxe Edition in 1/144 with the LED's? I'm a newbie with the electronics and any info would be appreciated. It doesn't seem to be that complicated but its the little things like securing the wires, location of the battery and switch etc and are the holes pre drilled for the lights? I can't wait to jump into this kit, i'm hoping I'll like the LED's because I'd love to experiment with other kits.   Thanks.
