Moebius Gallactica TOS Viper
Posted by PTConsultingNHR on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 9:37 AM
Hello ... First time for me in SCI FI ... My 55th birthday was Monday. A friend gave me a girt card for Amazon, and yesterday, I went online and ordered the Moebius 1:32 Battlestar Gallactica TOS Viper. Why? Simple. In 1978, I was a 18 year old college freshman at the then Central Connecticut State College (when I graduated in 1983 it became an university) and the guys on my floor in my dorm dubbed me Starbuck because I always wore a flight jacket, smoked long, thin cigars and played cards, like Starbuck did. I always wanted the REVELL/MONOGRAM kit since then and was never able to get one. So, what do you think of the Moebius kit? How is the detail? Do you get decals for Starbuck's Viper? Thank you, Tim

here's a review of the kit in the box. The decals are generic for the original show; they didn't have customized markings for various pilots like in the remake.

Thank you, sir.

Could anyone tell me if there are any aftermarket decal sheets for this kit to personalize it for a specific pilot?  And, if there is a detail set for the cockpit?

Your nickname was Starbuck!?! Frack, what a cool nickname!!!

As Rob said I don't remember any of the Galactica's Vipers having any special markings. The Monogram reissue did have cockpit names but they weren't on the 'actual' fighters. The only different insignia were on Silver Spar squadron from the Pegasus and Sheba and BoJay's Vipers lost these when they transferred over to the Galactica.

Yeup, sure was ... even after the show was cancelled an it stuck, to this day with my college friends ... in fact, my wheelchair van has the license plates, STRBUC.  I was mortified when they reimagined Starbuck as a female.  My friends kidded me over that.

So, you don't know of any after-market decals for the Moebius kit?  What about PE for the cockpit?

Hi All, again, ....

I just learned that starshipmodels has a decal sheet for the Moebius or Revell Viper kit that has the ORIGINAL series pilots.  I went on Amazon (where I got the kit) and they didn't have it ... does anyone here have it?

I'm surprised they didn't change your nickname to 'Faceman'! Sorry, other than a websearch and ebay I have no idea where you could find those decals if they're out of stock. That's one of the major reasons I started hording decals- seems like every time I see a cool set they're out of print!

HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks .. I needed a laugh ...

I could have been Face........... in my dorm, the exclamation, you've been Starbucked meant something ... ah, memories.

So, all of you, what's your opinion of the Moebius 1:32 scale kit?

Sorry, I don't own the kit, I've got I think three of the old Monogram models including the original one with no cockpit and a blacked out canopy.

I notice on the review Rob linked this new version actually includes landing gear!

one of the companies listed with Federation Models have photo etched sets for the Mobius kit and I remember that he had a couple sets of decals for Vipers.

Here's the original Monogram kit.  I put in a cockpit and canopy, added the sensor screen in the nose, redid the engine plumbing with tubes, wires, and plastic, and added landing gear.  To do the gear I used a copy of blueprints you could buy at the time.  All went well with one side and then I discovered that the artist cheated.  To save time he just copied the drawings into the other side.  When you build them it just doesn't work out and you have to stop and figure out how it would look on the other side.

I need to get hold of an old Viper kit to put on my launch rail kit I picked up from Federation Models.

Hi All,

All that I'm really looking for from that STARSHIPMODELS sheet is/are the GALACTICA badges, the Starbuck name and the Cylon kill markings.  That's all.  If anyone here has the out-of-production sheet and wouldn't mind breaking those items off, let me know, please?  Thank you.
