FineMolds 1/72 Boba Fett Slave1
Posted by MandoMan531 on Sunday, March 8, 2015 2:25 PM

Hey everyone! First of my ongoing builds I've decided to share is my Slave1. I'm waiting to get a lighting kit so I'm not really actively working on it now but it's the one I have the farthest along. Painted using Tamiya and Model Master Acrylics. Added interior and exterior lights, not screen accurate mind you but it's was never going to be 100% accurate so I took some liberties. Let me k own what you guys think!

Really nice work. How was the kit to build. I have the kit in the stash and was surprised to realise it was bigger than the old ARTL kit. What's the lighting kit your planning on using.

The worn paint effect looks really neat, looking forward to seeing how she comes out.

Thanks guys! The kit was easy, only real seam is right down the center of the fuselage, just like the Ertl kit. The fit is better, but far from perfect. Everything else is easy. Lighting kit is gonna be custom from Madman.

Good job, on got both versions a long while back but have yet to touch them. The Boba version with the little frozen Hans is cool.

That's cool, I like the weathering, blast marks, lighting...all very well executed. Looking forward to seeing it complete.

Wow, nice job!

I just picked up the 1/144 scale version at the local show & swap meet for $10. I can't wait to get into it, hopefully I can get a finish as nice as this! Well done sir!

taps, if you want one, I would grab it while you can. I think you will be very lucky to find a 72nd one at as good a price as qlabs picked up the 144.

You may actually be better off waiting. Revell Germany bought FineMolds tooling from what I understand so don't be surprised if this kit pops back up soon. Picture of the Revell boxed 1/72 Falcon are floating around from a hobby show somewhere, so the kits are coming back.

Well that's good news, and giving Revells bigger punch, they may be able to sell these cheaper than FM could. The 72nd falcon is the only one I wanted that I hadn't got. I do hope your right.

I read the 48th scale X-Wing, TIE and 1/72 Falcon were to be the first ones reissued by Revell. I remember turning my nose up at the Falcon originally, that it was so nice that I knew I would never build it. I should have bought it and flipped it on eBay.

I just hope Fine Molds can carry on. I understand they are a small operation, yet despite that, they produce some excellent kits. The new movies could have been a major boost for them, but I guess we should expect no less from Disney.

I think FineMolds will be fine, not that losing the license isn't going to hurt, but they do have a nice military line from what I hear.  Look for re-pop FM kits in Revell's "Master Series" line. I hope it will be cheaper since Revell did not have to do all the research and sculpting for the molds, but I doubt there will be any significant change in price. After all they already know what we are willing to pay for a good kit.
