Anyone doing the "Build the Millennium Falcon"?
Posted by Darth_Vapor on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 7:54 PM

Just wondering if anyone here has subscribed to the Build the Millennium Falcon subscription kit. It's a studio scale kit of the Falcon that's being released on a monthly basis.

Was thinking of starting it, but I was curious what others experiences with it were.

Thanks

One of my friends on Genessis is building it. the parts come pre-painted but the instructions encourage you to do your own weathering. The level of detail that I've seen is amazing with all of the lighting included with it.

Thanks, Mike. I didn't realize the kit was pre-painted.

This is looking really tempting.

Part work modelling, where you get some of the kit on a weekly/monthly/whatever basis, is pretty common in the rest of the world. But relatively new in the US, anyway. I'm sure people are impressed by both the model, and its price!

But I think some of the complaining I've read other places is a bit overblown. It's a big, well detailed model, and you're paying premium for both the Star Wars license, and the option to to get it in smaller, easier on the pockets bits. The main thing that has held me back from this kind of thing is the level of commitment necessary over that period of time.

I'm waiting for my 3rd batch of 4 packs from them.  I gotta say I love this kit.  The details are really crisp and spot on to the movie as far as I've seen.  The pre-painted parts leave a bit to be desired but I fully intend to repaint the entire hull once I have all the hull pieces anyway.  The only thing I was disappointed in was t he interior.  It seems as if they rushed it and didn't pay much attention to detail from the movies.  For example... the bunk above the seating area is completely wrong.  They made it a straight oval, but in the movie it's clearly a offset oval.  Another thing I didn't particularly care for was the stickers for the fine detail in the cockpit.  The main console instead of having raised buttons, instead has a sticker that you slap onto a flat surface.  Kinda lazy if you ask me.  However, there have been many 3D printed parts that have been popping up that fix alot of the issues with the lack of detail in those areas.  I can't really blame DeAgostini for this, because quite frankly, the only time the interior was ever done before was in the MPC/AMT/Ertl Falcon and that was highly simplified as well.  Personally I think it's highly affordable.  At $66.95 a month for 4 issues a month, a total of 25 month (100 issues) makes it really affordable for a 1:1 scale Falcon that before was only available if you shelled out a big chunk of change for the MR Falcon.  Not to mention, I get to build this one and accurize it as I go.  I love this kit.  It's got a really good balance for any builder out there.  If you've never built a model before, you could end up with a decent Falcon.  If you've got any kind of artistic talent whatsoever, you could end up with a very good Falcon you'd be proud of, but if you're like me and have been building models all your life and have a healthy dose of OCD, spend your time on it and not rush anything, you could end up with a truly remarkable true 1:1 Replica of the filming model with all the bells and whistles.  Oh and did I mention that the boarding ramp is remote controlled and included with the kit? :)  Anyone who has any interest in Star Wars collecting whatsoever would be foolish to let this one pass you by.

Things to think about... What would happen if you put a werewolf on the moon?  h is just a little chair and the human brain named itself!
