My Klingon D-7
Posted by tdwi66 on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 11:14 PM

Hi All! Here is my Polar Lights 1/1000 TOS Klingon D-7. I am just about finished with painting her and looking to get the decals on her this weekend! I painted it pretty much according to the instructions, and it looks pretty close to the picture on the bottom of the AMT box. I am quite pleased with the results and I hope you like it too!

She looks good! I didn't have the guts to use the greenish and purplish grey scheme on mine.

Perfect. Those simple color schemes are the hardest to pull off. One flaw ruins it but you did it perfectly.

Thanks Gerry! I wasn't sure I could pull it off, and the results turned out better than I expected.

I've finished painting the engine grill detail and put on all of the decals. I will clear coat it in a few days because I have other things to tend to this weekend. I am attaching a few pictures of the finished D-7. I hope you all like them!!

Thank you very much mach71!!! I was concerned when I was mixing the paint, and it turned out better than I thought. Now I want to to clear coat it but, I'm not sure if I want to try Future floor wax or, Tamaya semi gloss. I am concerned the Tamaya may damage the acrylic paint. I've never used Future so that is a concern too.

Decals look great!

I've never used Tamiya clear gloss but on Future I know some people swear by the stuff I've only had bad experiences with it.

Thank you Gamera!!! The more I investigate the less likely I am to use Future. Those who use it have a lot of practice with it, and I have seen what happens when it goes wrong. I think I'll just stick with the Tamaya clear coat.

Nice! Where did you find the color references? Are these the original production model colors?

Thanks BashMonkey!!! I just used the color references from the PL instructions, and researching on the web. No one really knows what the true colors are. There just wasn't much of any behind the scenes documentation in those days. The colors are based on the Roddenberry model which was given to him after the show ended. The other one that was used on camera, is in the Smithsonian and was repainted all gray I believe. So I figured that the Roddenberry model was the best reference.
