That is right spectacular Stik. Stunning paint work and I personally love the color combo you have going on there. Can't wait to see this finished up.

Yes it is... lots of color shift in it depending upon the lighting type. It goes from grayish to quite purple. I am curious to see how it will look once I get some Future on it.

Gamera

That is very nice looking SP, great idea there on brush painting the plates- lots of work but worth it.

Yes, it's definitely worth the time & effort needed...

Over the past few days I finished the last detail painting on this project.

and today I masked off the area on the bottom of the main hull for the Klingon Insignia, and then painted it

tomorrow I can get a gloss coat on to get this finished up...

No paintwork done today... the air temps took a jump and the power failed here earlier..., add that to errands and well...  Confused

but here is yesterday's work on the lower main hull

with and without flash to show the difference

I just need to do some work on the hangar bay area and then I can do the gloss coat prior to decals.

Looks awesome SP, a lot of work but worth it.

I'm wondering how psyclodelic (sp!?!) she's look under a black light though!

Yes sir. The only masking that I did was for the lower main hull color when I airbrushed.

Okey doke. Please keep posting and I'll keep learning....

Now that's really something.

So Stik, these various panels are all brush painted with no masking, is that correct?

Stik,

Now that you're finished building, do you recognize anything in this picture?

Yes I do... that is a kit part in the center of that medical device... wow! Star Trek IV...

Today was a lot of detail hand painting on the bridge area and upper side of the main hull. I'll let the photos do the talking...

and a close up in direct sunlight...

I swear that the Mauve is far more grayish to the Mk.I eyeball, especially in direct sunlight, than it appears here.

Tomorrow I will work on the lower main hull deflector plates.

Spruce, I just gotta stay away from the Romulan Ale and I'll be okay... I think...

Greg, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm glad that your enjoying this.

Gamera, that color is indeed funky. Especially under the flash. My original build of this kit when it was new and the only reference handy was an issue of "Starlog" magazine (remember those?) I used a Krylon Dark Gray primer with some blues like Intermediate Blue and some similar shade for the deflector plates. For painting this one I have been scouring the google images and youtube for whatever I can find.

Wow SP, that's very... funky!

I taped the movie off TV back when I built mine thirty years ago and went back and watched the sequence about a zillion times to paint mine. I went with an aluminum natural metal finish which is how they looked to me anyhow.

Painting looking good............no smears from snacking on Gagh while you worked...............

Looking forward to adding the insignia and the ceremony celebrating it's official entry into the Klingon fleet.

Thanks for watching and the kind words guys.

Bish, yes I do sci fi, but I have not done any for many years. This is a very nice change of pace for me.

And now onto the next stages of this paint project

on the lower main hull I used Humbrol Slate, a lighter and greener shade than the base coat of Dark Slate- the kit instructions recommend RAF Interior Gray Green for the darker color and US Interior Green for the lighter color, but those just looked too green when compared with the movie model...

then the instructions recommended a mix of Testors Purple and White for selected ares on the upper main hull, boom, and bridge. I did not have that color in my inventory, but I did have an old Humbrol Authentic colors Mauve which is a nice medium grayish purple, depending upon the lighting... so I painted that color where indicated, plus a few more of the deflector plates on the boom

Tomorrow I plan to do more of the deflector plates and some other areas with some other similar colors....

keep checking in for more...

Thanks Greg. I think the color looks very Klingon indeed.

As far as the deflector plates go... thats gonna be the old fashioned way, with enamel paints and a brush Wink

Nice picture of Kor/Baltar there.
