Moebius 35th Anniversary Galactica...finished pictures
Posted by rodc on Sunday, September 27, 2015 1:38 PM

After watching the 2004-2009 BSG series from Shomi, I decided to build the Galactica and chose the 35th Anniversary Moebius version which is actually based on the 1978-1980 series Battlestar.  I absolutely loved the kit.  Great fit, minor spots where a touch of putty was required and incredible detail.  I have the new BSG ordered which is based on the 2004-2009 series.....can't wait to have the two side by side.

As per instructions, I built in sections.  Primed each with Krylon Primer and finished with Model Master Flat Dark Aircraft Gray.  Glosscote then added decals (OMG what a nightmare - decals are the only bad part of this kit).  After decals were applied, applied a sludge wash to accent some of the panel lines and other details.  Finished up with a good coat of dullcote.  Pictures below and thanks for looking.

Looks great! Did that stand come with the kit, or did you make it?

Thanks.  The stand came with the kit but I painted the raised lettering and symbols with a narrow, chisel tipped paint marker.  Worked perfectly.  Virtually no cleanup required on the black.

Oh very cool!!! I found an original unbuilt copy of the old Monogram kit and bought a bunch of aftermarket parts for it so I haven't bought this kit yet. Looks pretty darn good from your photos though!

Just wondering but are there any provisions for lighting the model?

Hi Gamera,

I never gave any thought to lighting the kit but given the 17" length, I am thinking it may not be too hard to do - especially for the main engines.  Lighting the flight bays may be a little more challenging and there does seem to be a fair number of "portholes" and "windows" that could be drilled out to enhance the lighting effects.

Thanks! Yeah I was thinking that lighting the flight bays would be an issue unless you built some tiny Vipers to fit inside. I think I saw somewhere where a guy took some photos from the studio model and made slides of the flight bay interiors to light from behind. Otherwise seems lighting the model would be a snap.
