Polar Lights: I.S.S. Enterprise decals included?

Interesting Roosterfish. The thing I really noticed early on in my years of watching TOS was that the rear ends of the nacelles could be different from scene to scene. One version had a kind of bulbous protusion in the very back, and in the other version the back of the nacelles was flat but had numerous holes.
Only as a modeler researching the ship have I come to realize all the different schemes the model went through.
I saw the original model myself around 1980 when I visited the Air & Space Museum. I don't know if it had gone through its restoration by then. Will always be struck by how big it was. Apparently with late '60s TV special effects you had to have a big model to make it look convincing.

Good question, DJ. I think of Kirk's ship as the one with the lowered command dome rather than the high top dome used on the pilot episode(s). But then the budget of Desilu back then was so cheap the show stock footage interchanged ship versions throughout the episode. The high dome/low dome, the warp engines rear shapes, the blinking three big round windows in the front of the saucer, the deflector dish in different sizes, even window placements on the ships sides were different. But I think of Kirk's ship as the lowered, "chopped", saucer dome.

And the reason her "hull number" was 1017 was they just swapped the first 2 digits of the kits number with the last 2.

You wouldn't believe how much filler my Connie used. I had to graft thin plastic in the damaged areas and include interior levels and items in the damaged levels. Then there was a lot of filling, sanding, filling again, sanding again. When I got done painting the ship even I couldn't tell where the grafted areas were. I almost hated to damage the Connie after she was painted. But I did and added the burnt areas with the airbrush. In the long run it was worth the trouble to build in the damage.

And yes, the TV Connie was an AMT model. So if you have an AMT model of the Enterprise then you can rightfully say you have an actual prop that was used on TV.

For the filming of "The Doomsday Machine" I believe they used an AMT Enterprise model kit for the Connie.

Yes, they are fun to build, but they did need a lot of filler in the area you mentioned.

Great looking models, therriman. Aren't they fun to build? Easy to make if you want to snap it together or glue and fill for a better effect. The hardest part is filling the area where the warp pylons meet the engineering hull. And it is tough to get the saucer to fit together unless you saw apart the running lights.

Funny, I've built all the variations of the Polar Lights Enterprise EXCEPT the Kirk's TV ship. I've been saving the best for last, I suppose. Then I had to make the PL Klingon. Then my current project, the Martain Tripod from War of the Worlds. After the Tripod is done I promised myself to build the Kirk's ship.

Right DJ, so the sword thru the earth markings in the kit are correct in that they are like the ones on the doors on the bridge. Post pics when done, eventually I will do one too. Doing the Constellation right now.

I just have the add-on decals to the Space Ship Set and the windows for the Space Ship Set. And a couple other decals for the lesser Star Trek models. Once in a while I'll sell a CD with an 1 hour MPEG video of the 1992 once-in-a-lifetime Star Trek exhibit at the Smithsonian NASM in Washington D.C.

Ah Hah, so the only markings they show in the episode are on the nacelles and the door to the elevator. I have the episode on tape and was going to pore over the episode to see if the decals were done right. Oh well. Should still be a cool addition to my collection, definitely.

The decals are incuded, but remember, the markings are conjectural, as all they did in ther series was reverse film footage, so you never really saw any markings except the warp engine ones. But none the less, a cool to build!

By the way, do you have any decals to add detail to the Star Trek Space Ship Set Enterprise? I may get the windows decals, wondering if you have decals for the other details like striping, and the yellow dot etc.

Yes, the ISS marking come in the model box and the instructions show you where the decals go.
