Searching for an Imperial Star Destroyer
Posted by coralXplorer on Saturday, July 2, 2016 2:35 AM

Hello. I am searching for an Imperial Star Destroyer as seen in the Star Wars movies.  Do you know where can I get one?

Thanks!

You have a few options but they are not good, depending on what your looking for. You could grab an old MPC kit off eBay. On its own its a crappy under detailed kit. There are some resin aftermarket upgrades for it to make it look better.

Revell has a small pocket sized snaptogether that is halfway decent, better detail than the larger MPC kit, but still small.

Bandai just released a smaller SD, at about 4 1/2 inches that has super detail. But again it's tiny.

Your next options are bigger, more detail and a lot more money.

The OOP Anigrand at 28 inches long is a great kit when you can find one for sale. They seem to pop up quite often though.

The last would be the 3 foot resin kit by Randy Cooper. The largest, most expensive SD is also the hardest to build based on what others have said.

If you want a good looking SD with out breaking the bank, have a look at the Armada gaming miniature SD. It pre built and painted, but is a decent size (about 9 inches) and can be repainted easily.

Hope this helps. All of the above can be found by Googling the names.

Yep, pretty much what Robiwon said. Zvezda is supposed to be coming out with one sometime this year but it is based of the Star Wars Rebels cartoon show. I think we are all holding out hope that bandai will produce a decent size kit to build.

Sadly the SD while being iconic hasnt received  nearly as much attention as Xwings and TIEs, and undeservedly so.

Investigate game miniatures, even prepaints. They, too will be small.  Last year i cut up my old SD from AMT and made the crash on Jakku seen in Ep7.

If you aren't having fun, you're doing it wrong! Build to please yourself and they will flame you every time!

Here is the Armada game piece above the old F-Toys miniature. The Bandai kit is a touch longer than the F-Toys but has more detail than the old MPC kit.

Thanks everybody for your help. I think I will just wait because I like the Bandaï series but I am not interested in paying for a mini star destroyer. I want a bigger one.

Yep, the world waits and hopes. While we are wishing, let's wish for a re-pop of Revel ' s Venator.
